chapter eight

the voice came from aslynn. most people called her ass, although I wasn't sure if that was meant in the physical or personal way.

"are you going to answer or just stand there like you stared at Medusa?" she asked again. my voice came out in a choked whisper, "i dont know what happened." the oracles body was on the floor, unmoving. "it's not dead, is it?"

"no, of course not. just like us halfbloods she can pass out from working too hard." ass replied as she folded her arms across her chest. "what'd she even say?"

i thought for a moment as i leaned against the wall. "something about how all demigods will feel the pain, answer the call, and between two sides one will fall. it also ryhmed if you couldn't tell."

my head was pounding, and the questions weren't helping very much.

ass's body seemed tense as she responded quickly, "oh. well darling, you should take that up with Chiron."

i offered a slight nod and walked past her and towards the back door.

"will do." i responded, although i was planning to rest before taking my problems to him. i pushed the door open and looked around camp, my eyes narrowing in the bright sunlight.

i made my way across camp with a hurried pace, ignoring my previous plan to rest. it was too important to wait. i passed effy, a daughter of khione, on my way to the big house. i offered a slight nod to her, and in return I got an icy glare- literally. i could feel a freezing gust in my face. she wore a slight smirk nearly all the time, and her hair was always down in dark brown waves.

I felt a tap on my shoulder a moment later and i turned around right into gabe. "gabe."

"aella, i need to talk to you." he whispered urgently. his eyes glanced around quickly before he spoke again, "i just need you to promise something."

"why should i?" I hissed back. "you knocked me out just the other day, after oh so cleverly giving your plan away!"

i could tell he resisted the urge to hit me across the face before shaking his head. "we ran after you fell, there was no plan. must've imagined it."

"oh tell it to kronos." my hand rested at my side, clenched into a tight fist. people started to stare as they walked by, so i took a step back before putting on a fake smile. "what can i do for you, Gabriel?"

he was taken aback by the sudden personality change, but replied quickly. "keep dy safe, got that?" after speaking he walked away, joining up with ass and heading towards the training area.

i felt my chest tighten in sudden realization. i was right. they were planning something, and they were putting the plan to action very soon.
