I shut the door with some difficulty, the rust was a problem, but I had enough strength to get it closed before playing with the glove on my left hand and making my way through the vacant bunker and into the elevator. I didn't even bother going to the dining room, I wasn't hungry, just went to my room and shut the door, leaning against it and sighing.

It felt like I was stuck in a tar pit, I'd already decided to do this, but it hurt. That car was my only way out, unless I wanted to walk, but I probably wouldn't get far on foot. Not to mention I probably only had a few hours before the guards went through the footage for the day and caught me getting Demi and Dakota out. Who knew what would happen then? Best case scenario, I'd be killed.

I pushed off my door and pulled the gloves off, throwing them onto the bed and retrieving the radio from my dresser before sitting down and hitting the call button, slipping the small piece into my ear and twisting the engagement ring around my finger as I shut my eyes. What was I going to say to him? I couldn't very well tell him I was basically on death row, not after we agreed to get married when I got out.

"Carter! I was getting worried."

"I'm alright," a soft smile broke over my face, "Quiet here. Are you home?"

"Ja, been home. I'm glad you called, it gives me an excuse to not do this paperwork."

I rolled my eyes with a sigh, "This is why Bryn doesn't like me."

"Don't be ridiculous," Tobias laughed, "You sound tired."

"Yea, well," I breathed out the words, scratching my head, "I've been busy. Keeping up façades like this... it gets tiring."

"I know, I hate that you're in this position," Tobias said grimly, "Are you any closer to getting full information on Cooper?"

"I just got back, hun," I chuckled, "Haven't seen the creep yet."

"Good point. Well, if it helps, Bryn and I have been looking into his past, and we may actually be able to figure a few things out."

"Really?" I brightened, but there was still a pit in my stomach.

"Yes, I was hoping if we could get a good foothold, then you wouldn't have to stay there so long. As soon as we know something concrete, I want you to get out. Promise me."

I laughed softly and dropped my face into my hands, "I understand. Thank you," I held my breath for a moment before dropping my hands and staring at the stunning glow of the diamond ring, curling my left hand into a fist and holding it close to my chest, "Tobias... when we're married, what are your plans?"

"Hm? The same as what I've always planned. We'll meet up at the rebellion, get married there, give them all the information we have between the two of us, and let them deal with your brother and the rest of them."

"Yea, I knew that part. What else?"

"When we're done in America, I'm taking you home with me," Tobias said, and I smiled, "We'll still fight, but from a distance. I don't want you anywhere near the line of fire. I'd rather give up everything than watch you get hurt because of this war."

"Do you really think we can hide from them?" I asked in a whisper.

"No, maybe not forever, but if one day they come for us in Vienna, we'll go somewhere else. This earth is vast, there are a number of countries we could hide out in, rundown, but still livable. The hotel in Pisa, we were fine there, weren't we?"

"Yes."

"We'll just find places like that. If I have to, I'll leave the Syndicate to Bryn and we can go on the run together. Though I would like it best if we could settle down, somewhere you don't have to be constantly on edge like you are now, somewhere you can relax and know you're safe. We can just live out the rest of our lives together, grow old and annoying. You can play the violin until your arthritis decides otherwise. We can start a garden, get you a couple of Welsh sheep, adopt some kids maybe. I honestly don't care as long as I can have you, and keep you safe."
