Calvin scowled from the drivers seat as soon as we clambered into the car, rain dripping from our heads and our clothes soaking wet.
"How did you manage to miss the weather report for today?? They aired it for the millionth time since yesterday." He growled, eyes glaring at the puddle in his back seat that Claire and I had created.
The girl next to me, squeezed and tugged her hair so all the water ran out onto her soaking skirt before shooting her brother an irritated glance.
"No one can score all HDs on their assignments, attend all their lectures and tutorials and still listen to the weather report Clavin."I giggled at the sarcasm in her tone but turned it into a sharp cough when irritated green eyes snapped to glare in my direction. Calvin grumbled as he turned around to direct the car wheels but not before he threw a blur of white at us.
My eyes warmed with gratitude at the fluffy towel that fell on my lap.
"Ngawwww. That's so sweet." I exclaimed looking happily at Claire who smiled back from under the towel. My best friend's brother harrumphed as he pulled out of the parking spot with a smooth spin of the wheel.
Rain pelted onto the window like a mob of silver drops helpless to gravity. The silver drops then exploded into fragile trails of water as proof of its previous existence so others could cohere and create more trails. I watched them distractedly as I dried my hair, unconsciously enjoying the warmth of the car heater in the background when i caught Calvin's reflection in the window in the front.
His golden messy hair falling over his heavy thick glasses and grim lips pulled into a joyless straight line. His eyes were a stoic green peering over the top of his glasses like eyes of a man who knew every secret of the world and felt only boredom.
It was no wonder he was still single since I've met him ages ago.
I cocked my head to a side thoughtfully, my own brown eyes softening. But I knew the kindness in Calvin was undeniable. It was a big soft part of him. A natural instinct. Innate.
A reflex.
That was what made him the big softie that I had grown attached to.
"What're you thinking about? Is it the boy from just now?" Claire with her freckled pink cheeks and crown of golden hair filled my vision striking another thought in me.
A partner for Calvin. I blinked slowly and frowned as I tried picturing a beautiful girl, maybe with long hair?
She would have to be an amazing girl.
I glanced at Claire who looked at me quizzically while she waited for my response.
"What boy?" I asked, finally processing her question and she grinned at me, rolling her light green eyes.
"Oh please. I know the faces you make when you're thinking about boys." she stuck her pink tongue out at me, to which I retorted by yanking the skin beneath my right eye down. We fell into a fit of giggles and started flicking the wet towel at each other.
**** That night***
"A love luck doll for my brother?" My best friend hooted as she glanced at me from the bed. I nodded from the floor, on my tummy as I lifted up the doll I had made by wrapping a pink handkerchief around a ball of 'love inducing herbs' to make the head and the loose ends to make the body. It looked like a rain doll.
"It's even got eyes so it can help Calvin look for the right girl." I explained as I doodled on a pair of eyes with permanent marker.
Claire looked at the doll unconvinced, before shrugging.
