April 1st 1966
She quickly left work to change her smart outfit and into some more casual clothes. As she opened the door a large wave of unusual sounds and chords were flung out at her with high volume. Amelia loved going in the studio especially when they were in the middle of recording a song that even she knew was going to be huge. She entered the control room were George Martin and a few of his staff were sat, each with a cigarette, and watched as the boys played an instrumental version of a song. Amelia smiled and waved at George as he turned noticing her presence. She sat on a stool next to him that he'd pulled out for her so she could watch the masterpiece unfold.
The song went on for quite some time and she eventually notice the tape was marked "She Said She Said". She looked at the name not recognising it and tried to remember if Paul had played it to her. It seemed completely new as she listened to the pace of the song. Without the words it was still a great song but she knew when they were added it would sound incredible.
George held down a button for the intercom after they had finished, "Well done boys, we'll use that one. Anything you'd like to say?" He asked Amelia.
She leaned towards the microphone "Some words might be nice?" She joked making Paul snap up from his Coffee hearing her voice.
She smirked at him and he smiled making her laugh, then he reached to his microphone in return "We'll do that now". He smiled back at her then George gave a thumbs up from the control room confirming his decision.
Paul backed away turning to the boys as they talked between themselves and laughing to each other. Amelia found the scene so pleasing, Paul, John, George and Ringo all looked so content together and they never seemed to have an argument. At least it was never when she was around.
"Ok Paul, take it away" George said adjusting the levels on his vocals for the song.
The track began and he sang through the entire song. During the track, the rest of the boys snuck into the control room and sat behind Amelia as they smoked and whispered or drank tea in their break.
"He was standing at the window for ages" George whispered sitting directly behind her.
She chuckled to herself at the thought and couldn't help but feel happy that someone was watching over her. She put her focus back on his voice which was so perfectly in tune, the words fitted complementary to the recording that had taken place a few minutes ago. At points, he messed up a few words and the track was rewinded so it could be rerecorded. After feeling as if she was getting lost in his angelic voice, the track ended and the George asked John to record next.
Paul joined them but instead pulled Johns stool next to Amelia and gave her a kiss.
"Thank you for coming" he smiled rubbing her arm.
"It's a pleasure" she said taking his hand in hers to hold.
They listened to John sing for the recording instantly Paul rested his head her shoulder and sighed, "you seem tired" she whispered stroking his head.
"I am" he whispered closing his eyes "but it's ok, I'll be fine" he said sitting back up again after a few moments.
With their hands still intertwined, they relaxed into the music. Amelia couldn't help but think that Johns voice worked immensely better with the song. However the chorus needed another voice. When the track finished she didn't know whether to tell George or not. Just as she was going to turn and ask Paul, he reached for the intercom almost hitting George's hand.
"Sounds brilliant John, I think Amelia has an idea" he said obviously taking notice of her concentrated face that he knew all too well.
She hesitated but replaced Paul's hand on the button "I think it would be best if John is the lead on this track but with Paul and George in the chorus," Paul nodded in agreement and she looked for confirmation from George which he agreed with also.
"And possibly some harmonies during the verses?" She suggested and everyone seemed to believe what Paul had said to them about her being competent with recording and all things music related. Other times the boys thought it was just his influence in the moment but they soon realised she had a real talent.
"I think we should give you a job here" John said into the microphone and she couldn't help but smile from his compliment.
"I agree" George replied and Amelia was shocked that a top class record producer believed she was capable of music arranging.
She almost felt embarrassed at the sight and was glad that she could help. As the boys got up to practice some other songs for the album Ringo gave her a wink and a smile, he always reassured her. Ringo was almost like a big brother to her that she never had. Paul took her hand and pulled her gently to face him.
"See, I told you!" He said placing his warm and slightly moist hands on her face.
"Alright alright! Maybe I am a musical genius" she said admitting to the label and holding his hands.
She wrapped her arms around his body not wanting to let go "I'm so proud of you Paul" she confessed.
"Me too" he said rubbing her back.
"With all the music and recording I know it can be difficult for people to stay close but, you look after me and I really respect you for that" she said.
"Aww you!!" He said gripping her tighter lifting her up in his strong arms.
They stood there for a while until they were interrupted "Come on Paul" Harrison said. He placed her gently down and he smiled at her "have fun" she whispered and he ran back into the studio after quickly kissing her soft nose.
