It wasn't until the Duke and Duchess of Clarence and Avondale arrived at the hospital, luckily unnoticed, although the press had noticed the change of rush in the streets, that the event actually sunk in. It wasn't until Evee was introduced to her midwife named Marie Adams, a middle-aged brunette who seemed calm and collective that she realised this actually was reality. Her water had broken, her body was preparing itself for an actual birth.
Their rooms, because they had more than one, were secluded from the other parts of the Lindo wing. They had their own private area, heavily secured with more than four security members. She knew all the people that had to be informed, were informed. Her own make-up team, her stylist, everyone would be ready for the grand finale outside.
Doctor Alan Farthing and doctor Guy Thorpe-Beeston had been called in as soon as they received a phonecall that the Duchess her water broke. They had been on standby for days now, just waiting for the most important phone call they'd receive since the Duchess of Cambridge gave birth to her daughter.
Evee's contractions had started right there, just as they arrived at the hospital. They were still small and she knew they would become much, much worse than this. This just felt like some severe menstrual cramps, she knew this couldn't be it.
It wasn't until the first examination that she was getting worried. Doctor Thorpe took off his gloves, covering the Duchess lower area with much respect, "You're only dilated one centimetre, this could actually still take a while."
Her eyes shifted towards Harry's, seeing the monitor on her right doing its work. They had already placed three transducers on her belly. An intravenous catheter with some extra fluid pierced on the skin of her right arm. "I don't want it to take a while."
"Let's just wait for another two hours, see where it gets you and if the contractions don't come sooner, I will give you some Pitocin to start things up." The doctor spoke, turning towards the midwife. "I want you to check up on them every thirty minutes. If there's change in heart rate I need you to contact me immediately."
Evee looked a little worried, biting her lip. Sure she was a nurse, but she wasn't a midwife. She had only witnessed one birth during her internship at the OR and that was a caesarean section. This was something totally different.
It took another hour and a half for Evee to wish that she didn't say that she didn't want it to take a while anymore. "Oh god. This hurts." She breathed, standing up straight and leaning her arms upon the bed. "Why does this is hurt so much?" She mumbled, closing her eyes, trying to think happy thoughts.
"I wish there was something I could do." She heard Harry speak softly right next to her.
"Keep rubbing." She requested, feeling his hand against her lower back.
"Just do as the midwife told you, breath into your nose, out through the mouth." He spoke, feeling terrible to see her in pain like this and not being able to do anything about it.
"I AM doing with the midwife told me." She grumbled, riding out the waves of her contractions. Finally being able to be free of pain for another four minutes. "This kid better be out by eight o'clock." Evee spoke, looking at the white clock on the wall that said 6.03 pm.
She felt herself getting more restless, walking around the room, stopping when the pain nearly buckled her knees and Harry had to steady her. Her hands wrapped around his forearm, forehead pressed against his shoulder, she groaned, leaning against him. "I can't do this." The blonde nearly cried, "This pain, Harry. I can't. I can't."
"You can do this. I know you can." He felt his heart sink in his shoes when he heard the woman he loved silently cry in his ear, biting down the immense stabs in her belly. "You're doing amazingly. Just keep on breathing, in and out. I'm so proud of you." He kissed her temple, not caring that she nearly broke his bones with her hands on his upper arms.
