I feel a hand on my shoulder and I jolt awake, shuddering. When I see it's my dad I sigh in relief. "Mom still got ya doing that?" He laughs but I just take my headphones out, frown still plastered onto my face. "Well the plane's landed, so we gotta go now."
I look out the window. Guess he's right. I pick up my backpack from under the seat in front of me. I sling it over my shoulder and look around. The big line of people trying to get out is already there. I put my left headphone bud back in and lip-sync the words to the song as I wait for the people to leave.
"Lets go." Annie says and starts pushing the people walking out of her way. She turns back to us to see we haven't moved. Like polite fucking people. "What are you waiting for?"
"We'll catch up with you hun," Dad calls. She scoffs then walks out. I watch as the people walk out, smiling. Why can't I be like them? I sigh then sit back down. Why am I even here.
Finally everyone's gone and my dad and I walk out. I wave my hand up to the man holding the door to show my thanks without speaking. I turn my music up a bit and walk my classic strut across the white tiles, imagining myself in high heels strutting down a runway for RuPauls Drag Race. Only one can dream.
I find Annie at the luggage drop off and cautiously walk up to her, my father following behind. I see my black carry-on and grab it off the turner. I lift it up like a weight a few times, just to feel the old power I felt when I did gymnastics more frequently. When she starts to stare at me in disgust I drop the bag and look down. Rubbing my nose with my middle finger to lowkey give her a signal. They eventually get their bags and we walk out. I find a taxi with no one in yet and I get into the front seat, my parents going in the back. "To 14 Ruth Avenue please." I tell her.
"Gotcha." She puts the cab in ignition and starts driving away.
Marks POV
"Thanks for the food mom. I better get packing for school." I tell her, putting my dishes into the sink.
"Anytime baby, let me know if you need any help," she replies, grinning. I smile back, and run up the stairs like I usually do.
I get into my room and close the door, going over to my desk. I grab my list and hold it, getting my pointer finger out and ready. Pencils, check. Highlighters, check. Pens, check. Binders, check. Backpack, check. Lunch box, check. Okay. Jeans, check. T-shirt, check. Vans, check. Okay. Think we're good.
I grab my journal and start doodling. I've always loved sketching, and it's quite relaxing when you have the stress of a first day of school. My phone dings and I check my Instagram. Hm. No new stuff. Weird.
I notice the time says 9pm. Crap time flies by fast. I put my phone in its charger and close my eyes. Good luck. And don't fuck it up.
Ethan POV
The driver finally gets to our new house. She stops and I thank her, exiting the car with my parents following. I pick up my luggage from the trunk and drag it inside after unlocking the door. I set it down on the ground and flicked the light switch. They didn't even bother paying the electric bill for their new house. Smh. I flicked it back and looked around, canceling out the noise of my parents arguing about god knows what. The house has dark oak floors with white walls. The rugs and carpets are a light blue and they're a fuzzy wool fabric. It's beautiful. Just like the pictures. Medium-white-framed windows covered almost every wall, letting in damp oxygen that made you take in deep breaths to not get too dizzy.
"Well, lets unpack a bit and go to sleep." My dad said, lifting up the two suitcases he had to carry since Annie was "too pretty" to hold anything.
I nodded in agreement, going upstairs before they could and finding my room on the right. I opened the door and smiled, seeing a lock on the door from the inside. Good for if I meet anyone at this school. I laugh aloud. Like anyone would like me. I keep smiling as I lay down my suit case and unzip it, taking out my clothes. Am I feeling masculine or feminine? Masculine. I pick up my blue jeans, black and blue layover shirt, binder, beanie, grey socks, and my favorite Jordan's. Perfect.
I change into the clothes because pajamas aren't really my thing and take my toothbrush and toothpaste to the bathroom to get ready. When I brush the white out of my toothbrush I place it on the granite countertop and pick up my backpack, checking if I have everything in it. I'm ready.
My jacket awaits me on the floor and I lie down on it, trying to get comfortable. This is going to be a long night.
