Skylar Dar was an innocent child. That was the simplest a person could put it. Given, all children are born innocent, free from horror and just plain stupid. But Skylar was a different type of innocent. She was the calm before the storm. Before she realised who she truly was.
Mabuka, Skylar's dearest mother, was a creature made of darkness. But, she wasn't ugly, like many of the ghouls, and monsters Skylar had heard from her story books. In fact, Mabuka was a stunning and beautiful maiden, with long green hair whichever looked liked a poisoned river and an delicate hourglass figure. Her almond eyes were brown and casted judgement on whatever she set her eyes on. Her tightly fitting black dress, which hugged itself around her curved figure was graceful and flowed way past the floor and looked like a black stream which followed her through the floor. To be quite frank, Skylar loved Mabuka, but loved her in a way she would a mother. It did not matter to Skylar that Mabuka was the Lordess of the Stars, their keeper and protector. One day, Mabuka and Skylar were in, what Skylar called, the 'Mirror room'. The mirror room was exactly what it sounded like, a room full of mirrors that were from the white ceiling to the cold black floor. The room was like a semi-circle, and there was a lack of any sort of window. Nothing else was inside of that room. The mirrors of the mirror room did not reflect what stands in front of it, but it reflected the whole universe's balance, Mabuka tells Skylar. "Everyone is born from a star," Mabuka pointed out to Skylar, waving her hand to each mirror and on each reflective surface, arose a perfect galaxy of stars, dust and nebula. Tiny explosions happened near and far from the mirrors, like they were happening right there. Mabuka cradled her amazed, starry eyed child in her arms as she continues, "As each star begins to die, more begin to form. It is an endless cycle of life and death, however it is very beautiful, do you not agree?" Skylar nodded as she stared at the mirrors in astonishment, at all of the dying stars and at all of the new ones.
"Mummy," Skylar's young, clumsy and curious mouth questioned, "Where is my star?"
Mabuka frowned slightly, something that was too ugly for a delicate face like her's. What was she supposed to say to a young impressionable mind? Skylar only looked upwards towards her mother, questioningly and curious.
"You were not born from a star," Mabuka finally revealed after some moments of silence, "You were born from the darkness."
"Oh..." Skylar whispered, sadness infecting her voice, "Does that mean I'm ugly?"
Again, another long pause before Mabuka responds with a smile on her lips, "Darling, do not be silly."
Mabuka pushed her child closer to the mirrors and encouraged her to place her hand on it. Skylar did and she felt amazing. It was like she was touching the glass that separated her and the never ending galaxy.
"You are the reason why all the stars shine so brightly," Mabuka encourages her child, "You are the reason for so many beautiful things; the stars, the planets, the asteroids, even the flake of dust travelling endlessly through time and space. Truthfully, that makes you the most beautiful thing out there."
Skylar smiled along with her mother as they gazed upon the dozens of disappearing and appearing stars, satisfied. And then the gentle explosions of the stars begun to slowly lull Skylar to sleep and into some dreams of floating around in deep darkness. But that didn't bother Skylar any longer. The darkness was beautiful. The darkness was eternal bliss.
