To be honest, I didn't expect much of anything of a ship that Abyss had issued for us. Dark, cramped and slightly suffocating, people from all of the ten remaining districts were cramped together in a small boat. There was a lack of windows, and the beams above us creaked and shook. The smell of, strangely, sea water and sweat laid lazily on the atmosphere. Some people sat down, but many of us just stood up, the tilting of the boat slow and melancholic, making us slightly bump to and fro from of each other. The ship groaned, like a bead which was disturbed from its slumber, or a machine lacking care, its gears needing of oiling.
"Where are we going this time?" Copper inquired, as he played with the moss which was growing on the floorboards, inbetween his fingers.
"Apparently, we're going to a completely separate island from the ones where most of the games take place," Riko's voice informed in the blackness, "from what I've heard, the fourth game hall is the most...dangerous."
"Which means that we have a 61 percent chance of losing about half of our district." Brandon calculated callously out loud, and despite the darkness, I can imagine him pushing his glasses up the bridge of his nose informatively.Unexpectingly, without warning, with a final huff of the monster's dying breath, the ship pushed us into each other one last time, nearly toppling us over like dominoes. The latch above us swung open to reveal the dark red light and the humid heat. Several ropes were heaved down, most worn out and falling apart and a bald man with his black eye patch flicked up onto his forehead, looked down to us. Without a word, he motioned for us to begin climbing, moving his head slightly to the right rapidly. And then we, like a bucket full of blood thirsty leeches, began to grip and pull ourselves up on the ropes.
When I had finally had gotten to the top of the ship, I saw that the fourth game hall was on a small remote island, probably 35 miles in radius. The grass was a shade of green, dulled by the years of cold and neglect. The dusty yellow pathway was uneven, stones leading upwards towards what seemed like a enormous, gray, crooked mansion that was made of wood. The steps leading up to the abomination were missing its floorboards and the black door was left slightly ajar. Windows were smashed, boarded up, or simply covered with dusty white curtains, which were moth-bittern and the roof was tilted towards us like it was sneering at us. The crowd of Daemons entered the house, almost melancholic and slow.
This was it. Our fourth game hall."Wow, this place looks like a haunted mansion." Ben commented, smirking slightly as he held up his shotgun, "Where do I sign up?"
The interior of the game hall was less threatening; although it was dark, it was spacious and everybody could move about as they pleased. The floor was made of gray wooden floorboards and there was a stair case to the left leading up to a second floor, the balcony above us. The walls were painted yellow, the dark brown boards freshly painted, but it all looked grey in the dull light.
A miniature screen was on the second balcony and we all tilted our heads up simultaneously as soon as the screen lit up with bright shining colours. It made me squint my eyes."Good morning people!" Abyss cheered, his arms on his hips, "today I have a very special game for you. Why is it special, you may ask? Well it's because many of you may die tonight!" He chuckled slightly at his own dark joke as he continued, "The game room you are currently standing on is something I'd like to call 'The secrets of Hiroshima Academy'!" Abyss opened is mouth to say something, but then he pauses.
"You know what?" He chipped as he took a black remote from his hand, "I've got a splendid video to explain the rules."
Pfft, I thought casually, he's just being lazy.
And then he presses the button on the remote and the channel switches.
