Chapter 13-the talk

I walked away, going to come back at about 2, it was noon, I had 2 hours to waste, until I had to pick up Hugh.

“Emily!” I heard someone yell, when I passed the inner inn.

“yes, mysteries voice?” I called back, with a smile.

“I just sent my college letter!” rock yelled. I looked up at his balcony.

“cool.”

Cool?!? The guy has just sent a letter to go to college!! And all you say is cool?!?! And you didn’t even want him to go in the first place!!

for about 5 minutes it was awkward silence.

“hey rock, where’s the college?” I asked.

“about 4 towns over, that’s the closest. I can get there by boat get there in about 3 days or walk for 10 days.” rock said.

“and if you get to go, when are you leaving?” I asked, I wanted to know, when my best friend was leaving.

“in a week or 2.” rock said, he had a upset look on his face, I think it was because I started talking about him leaving.

“and how long, will you be gone?” I asked.

“depends… I can be there for a year, 2, 3, 4, I can be there almost my whole life.” he said.

“oh…” I said, almost about to cry. But before I could, I ran home. I ran inside, onto my bed, and under the covers. I felt little paws jump up on my bed. Then I felt a little tongue against my cheek.

“skip, please stop. I’m really upset right now.” I wiped away a tear. I felt skips paws jump off my bed. I almost sat up, when I heard my door open and close.

About 3 minutes later. There was a knock at my door. I got up. I felt like I was going to burst into tears when I opened the door, and rock was there.

“hey Emily. I think you lost something.” rock said.

“what?” I asked, I had everything…then I relived what he was talking about. I looked behind him, and there was skip. Skips front paws were on rocks leg, as if my dog has been pushing rock.

“this really happened.” rock said, pointing to my dog. “I’m not joking!” he said. Rock walked in the house, and as he walked in skip walked on his hind legs and pushed rock. Rock and I started laughing. This made me forget that rock had to leave for college.

“down boy.” I said to skip, after we stopped laughing. Skip did as told and looked as if he did a good thing. Soon, I notice rock looking at me.

“you’ve been crying.” rock said, as he came closer to me, to wipe away the stranded tears.

“no. I mean I have but, I’m fine.” I lied. Just talking to rock, made me want to cry until I had no more to cry.

“you know Emily. You can come to me if you want to cry.” rock said, opening his arms, for me to run in to. I held myself from running into rock’s arms.

“no I’m fine.” I pinched my arm behind my back to stop from crying even more, or even running to my best friend. I looked at the calendar on the other side of the room. It was summer 28. In this valley, they don’t use months, the use seasons, its funny in the city there are 12 months, here there are 4, in the city on new years eve, its new years eve here too, don’t ask me how it works. I don’t even know.

Me and rock spent the time talking, and I felt better. It had felt like old times. I felt happier, we talked until it was almost 2. Then, We walked down to Cody’s house to get Hugh.

“Emily, look at my painting!” Hugh yelled as he showed me his painting. So far, my dirt, the trees, and the sky were drawn in pencil.

“Hugh, this is amazing!” I said, pushing the hair out of my face and behind my ear to see it better.

“so far. And as soon as I’m done with it, I’m giving it to you!” Hugh said, handing the painting back to Cody, until tomorrow. I looked at Luminas panting. So far I could see the sand, and the waves drawn in pencil. I was amazed by what I saw, these kids were artist!

“this ones pretty.” rock said from behind me. He was looking at Cody’s painting. It looked almost done. I could see the trees, grass, the big tree I was in, even Obake was in the painting. But something else caught my eye. Standing by the big tree was, a goddess looking lady, she had long green hair, that almost touched the ground. She wore almost like pants, but almost like a skirt, she had a top like jasmine from the movie “Aladdin”. she had nick, nickels, and Marko in her hands.

“is this the harvest goddess?” I asked, pointing to the girl in the painting.

“yep, I saw her myself. She sat at the edge of the pond. She looked at me and told me it was a dream.” Cody said. “but this was years, and years ago. Before Lumina was born.”

“wow” I said, looking at the pitcher of the beautiful lady, who was more magical then anybody.

An hour later, I was waving goodbye to Hugh.

“thanks again, Emily.” Chris called as they walked off my farm.

“no problem” I yelled back.

“woof!” skip barked. After the family was gone, I started talking to talk to skip.

“I know what you did, dog.”

“woof?”

“you brought rock here…didn’t you?”

“woof…” skip said, as if he couldn’t say yes, or no to my question…forgetting the fact that he’s an animal. I started dinner. I had a salad with corn. Skip had dog food with corn. Then we went to sleep.
