Another Hale

Chapter 22

I came home to see Cora doing push ups ,well until Derek pushed her hand out from under her with his foot. She looked upset with him. He looked at me.

"Jess?"

"No, the muffin man. Duh." I say sarcastically. He smiled and came to hug me. 

"Where were you?" He asked.

"I just came from Stiles'. I was going to go to Scott's to but he'd be at a thing for cross country." I tell him. I pulled away from him as I saw Cora coming over. She started trying to hit Derek ,he was blocking her hits but wasn't fighting back.

"Come on, fight back. I came for this. I can't believe I got my ass thrown in a vault for three months for you. All those rumors I heard. A powerful new alpha ,one of the Hales ,building a pack. Do you know how long I waited to hear something like that?" Cora was getting angry.

"I'm sorry to disappoint you." Derek said ,sounding indifferent. But I knew him better than that. He cared ,he just wasn't going to show it. Then the alarm on the wall went off.

"What's that?" Cora asked.

"Trouble." Was all Derek said. 

The door opened ,it was Ennis ,one of the alphas. Cora wasted no time in running at him. He met her in the middle ,easily grabbing her by the throat and lifting her up before slamming her against the floor.

Ennis looked up at Derek. "Ready for a rematch?" He asked. He went to step forward but stopped when Kali came in. He went for Kali again. I went and punched Ennis to get him off of Cora.

It worked he got up and face me. He clawed at me but I narrowly dodged his claws. Cora was able to get his back with her claws. When he face her ,I got his back too. He turned back to me. I sent a sidekick to his knee ,knowing if I kicked any higher he would catch hit. He goes down on one knee. 

This time when Cora went at him ,he caught her wrist. She tried to use her other wrist but he caught that one too. He headbutted her making her fall to the ground ,and she wasn't getting up yet. 

Ennis looked at me challengingly. I growled at him defiantly. I stopped when I heard a pain filled howl from my alpha and cousin ,Derek. Ennis grabbed me by the throat and pushed me against one of the columns right by me. Cora was right by us so he put his foot on her throat.

Derek had a pole through him. Kali had broke one of the pipes running through the room. That's unfair ,Kali.

"Everyone done?" Deucalion ,the leader of the alpha pack, asked ,carefully walking down the steps so his blind self didn't fall down the stairs. "Because just listening to that was exhausting." He sat on the couch right in front of Derek. "So... let's chat. Sorry about this Derek. I asked Kali to be gentle."

"This is me being gentle." Kali remarked ,twisting the pole in Derek's back. I growled lowly at them making them glance my way ,even though Deucalion couldn't see me. 

"Let them go." Derek panted out. Deucalion motioned for Ennis to let Cora and I go. He did. I went to go to Derek but he looked at me and shook his head. "No." He muttered.

"See, we're not unreasonable." Deucalion told Derek.

"What do you what? You want to kill me?" Derek asked.

"You really think I'm that boring? Don't throw me in with sociopaths with your uncle. I'm a man with far more vision than simple murder. In fact, I'm here to show just how much vision a blind man can have." Deucalion said as he took of his sunglasses ,his eyes starting to glow red.

"You're killing him!" Cora exclaimed as Kali twisted the pole again.

"Not yet ,little sister. But I could. You knows if it five minutes or five hours before it's too late to take this out." Kali said. I growled lowly at her. "You're really going to growl at me right now? I thought you were smarter than that ,Jessica." She twisted the pole some more just because I growled.

"Obviously you overestimate my intelligence." I muttered. Kali looked back to Deucalion.

"Just to be on the safe side ,Duke, you might want to get to the point." Kali told Deucalion.

"Now you see the one problem with being in an alpha pack. Everybody wants to make the decisions. Me? I'm more about discovering new talents... Like you." Deucalion told him.

"Not interested." Derek told him.

"But you haven't even heard my pitch." Deucalion seemed fake disappointed.

"You want me to... kill my own pack." Derek glared at him.

"No. I want you to kill one of them. Do that, and I won't have to ask you to kill the others. You'll do it on your own. I did ,Ennis did ,Kali did.  Tell him what it's like ,Kali, to kill one of your own."

"Mmm... Liberating." Kali said.

"Listen to me ,Derek. Do you really want to stay beholden to a couple maladjusted teenagers bound to become a liability? And believe me, they will become a liability. In fact, I have a feeling one of them is getting himself into trouble right now." Deucalion said.

"See, the reason I'm invested in new talent is simple. We all know a pack is strongest due to it's individual parts. The stronger the individual parts, the greater the whole. When I lost my sight, one of my betas assumed I wasn't fit for my role anymore. He tried to take it from me. Killing him taught me something about alphas I didn't know they could do. His power was added to mine. I became stronger ,faster ,more powerful than I'd ever been. I tested this new ability to subsume the power of your own by killing another one. In fact ,Derek, I killed them all. I took the individual parts and became a greater individual whole." Deucalion kneeled beside Derek. He grabbed the back of Derek's head and pulled it back. Then he ran a hand down Derek's face ,feeling the features. "You're right ,Kali. He looks like his mother. You'll get to know my ,Derek. Like she did."

"I know you. I know what you are. You're a fanatic." Derek said.

Deucalion put his stick that helps him feel his way around on the table before turning to face Derek's direction again. "Know me? You've never seen anything like me. I am the alpha of alphas. I am the apex of apex predators. I am death ,destroyer of worlds! I am the demon-wolf!" He shouted at the end ,cracking his glasses. 

Cora and I were huddled together behind a beam supporting the ceiling ,the one Ennis had me pushed against, peaking around it to watch. I was shaking. These werewolves scared the hell out of me. I watched as Kali finally pulled the pole out of Derek.

"Hate it when that happens." Deucalion says while taking off his broken glasses. Kali drops the pole and lets Deucalion grab her arm. She started leading him out with Ennis behind them. Cora and I ran to Derek.

I was literally shaking from how scared I was. They could've just killed us. Derek was really hurt too. 

He need to kill them before they kill us. We need to find them and end this before it gets to serious. If I have to do it by myself, I'll do it or die trying.
