Taehyung ran his fingers along his keyboard, plaintively going through the data given to him by the scientist. As Namjoon had left the job of transcription was empty. Siwon had fought against Taehyung being the new transcriber but the Major had, as always, left no room for argument. The young technician scowled and leaned back in his chair. His entry pass swung in the air as he stood up glaring at the paper in front of him. He was pissed, he couldn't think clearly. He thought it was the three of them verse the world. He thought it was Namjoon, Jimin, and him. The only people capable of standing by him, and he was alone with only Jimin. His dear cousin was a monster. He had eaten supper with that mutant, with that aberrant creature.

"Are you going to the cell blocks with me?" Jimin put his hand on Taehyung's shoulder, making the young adult jump in surprise.

"Why would I go there?" Taehyung snarled, shaking his friends hand off of his shoulder. "I don't want to see him. He's not my cousin anymore he is just subject five now." It hurt him to say that, but it was the truth. He had lost his beloved mentor.

"Don't say that." Jimin punched Taehyung's shoulder, not feeling upset at all when his friend groaned and rubbed the aching area. "You know he's more to you than just some." He fell silent and shook his head, refusing to say anything.

"I get it. You're sensitive to their plight." Taehyung rolled his eyes and started typing his way through the observations again. "But remember us, we have to fight for our place in this world before they destroy us. We are the victims here not them."

"Well?" The two went silent as they heard Major's voice filling the main room. "Are they still here? Or did they leave?"

"They left." Siwon spoke and Jimin edged towards the door and looked out into the lab. He could see Major and the Scientist standing together by the vials. "Are my reports not good enough?"

"I wanted to talk about your progress. We have scientists in different buildings exploring the same as you. Right now our department is the closest to creating an adaptable mutant gene. If you manage to make this, we can change the world. We can backwards engineer it."

"Yes, I know." Siwon picked up a beaker and shook it. "I already engineered your mutant suppressant. That in itself should buy me a few more months."

"I thought they were using the mutant genes to like, cure cancer." Jimin mumbled. They were never clearly told what they were doing, only that they were trying to understand these new beings.

"Adaptable." Taehyung repeated slowly. "They are obviously making a cure, they are destroying the mutant gene. Do you know what this means? We could have him back." His eyes brightened as he thought about having Namjoon back, the real Namjoon. Not some super powered creature.

"Yeah." Jimin nodded and listened as Siwon continued to speak medical jargon, complaining about how he needed more time. "What is a hemoglobin?" Jimin whispered to Taehyung, trying to translate the medical information.

"It's like blood or something." Taehyung muttered, already finding interest in his work, as opposed to this magical anti-mutant event. "It doesn't matter. If we are supposed to know we will be told." He was okay with waiting for Major to tell him. He trusted his uncle completely. He was raised by his uncle and was treated with the care and respect his own parents never gave him.

"Yeah. Right." Jimin reluctantly tuned them out and sat on the desk, watching Taehyung type. "Siwon is getting pretty frazzled. I guess Major is hassling him pretty hard."

"Yeah, I know. He's getting some pretty crazy nicknames these days." Taehyung mumbled, not fully paying attention.

"Yeah, Alex said Namjoon was keeping him straight." Jimin sighed and folded his arms. Alex was a right hassle. There was absolutely nobody more paranoid than him.
