Namjoon closed his eyes and counted his breaths, trying to resolve his inner tension. Jimin wanted to cause a revolution, he wanted to protect the people around them, the people who had nobody to save them. Yet they could not even maintain a united front. It was hopeless, they had no means of staging a coup, they had no way to actually destroy the institutions built up of well trained and highly prepared soldiers. The only reason why they had gotten away in the first place was that nobody knew that Jimin, Taehyung, and Yunghee were metas. In fact, still the Major wouldn't know that Jimin and Yunghee were.
His fingers pulled at the tender flesh of the fish as he tuned out the squabbling around him. He knew his father, the man would be looking for large groups, he would be trying to identify any potential look alike and setting up a perimeter. Now that they knew Taehyung was a meta Namjoon knew that it would be tough to stay out of their sites. Mindlessly he left his fish carcass on the floor or the house and wiped his hands on his pants. Without much thought he pulled the map of the area out and a marker. Nibbling on his lip he started drawing circles on the map, making multiple radiuses. He knew Taehyung was weak, it was the truth since he just came into his power a mere day and a half ago now. There was no way Taehyung could make a large jump. Major would know that as well. Within a few hours there would be soldiers working their way in from the outer possible radius. They wouldn't have time to wait to be caught, they needed to get out of the net before it closed in on them.
His head started to throb as he mindlessly raised his hand and waved a bit. Within moments a groaning Jimin had pulled himself across the dirt floor to look at the map. "These are the green zones." Taking the marker from Namjoon his shaky hand circled every known base he could think of. "The brown zones are along here," he marked the areas with the least primatech influence as he spoke.
"We need supplies, it would be better to hit one of their smaller buildings rather than a city." Namjoon looked at the new information, sighing when he heard Hoseok's voice carry through the room.
"So what, now we are going on a field trip to save each and every little mutant?" His words snapped through the air, leaving Namjoon growling.
"No. We're incapable of fighting them. We need to get out of here before Major sends enough patrols to corner us. We're going to get out of this trap we're in." Namjoon tapped the map as he spoke, "then we are going to separate. It's the safest option. It will be harder for him to find us if we separate, there will be less identifying markers for him to use. As a group of eight, we are an easy find."
"I'm not ready to be alone." Jungkook mumbled from Taehyung's side. He looked up at Namjoon with guarded eyes, already closing himself off.
"I know, but it’s the best choice." Namjoon rubbed his eyes as Jimin looked at the map. "We will stay off main roads, so how will we get supplies?"
"We can hit one of the supply trucks heading to our facility." Jimin rubbed his eyes then ran a marker along all the trade routes he knew. "But we don't know if they have changed the schedule due to all of this, they will have lots of watchers on roads too. We won't be able to do trains again, they will have that closed up."
"They would have figured out by now that we used the train." Namjoon mumbled in agreement. He wasn't trained to be a soldier like Jimin was, he was just a lab assistant. Taehyung would be more useful than him, his cousin spent a lot of time coding and repairing the machines used. He would have sat in on missions and learned tips for ambushes. "Okay, we'll look at this again in a moment. Everyone listen up. In order for this to succeed we need to decide who is doing what, and everyone needs a specific job. As we know Jimin, Taehyung, and Yunghee cannot fight, that leaves the fighter to the three of us." He pointed to Hoseok, and Yoongi as he spoke. "While we are moving Jungkook will have Taehyung, Seokjin will be supporting Jimin, and Yunghee has to stay close to him to help her. That means we are the first wall."
"Alright." Yoongi sighed and crossed his arms. "So what do we do."
"You will be at the front of the line, with your ability you will be able to sense if soldiers are coming. If you sense any then you need to fall back. I'll start a shield to give the invalids time to retreat, you'll be guiding them, you will be able to guide them away without leading them into anymore soldiers. Jungkook will join you, acting as offense in case you get stormed." Namjoon looked the map sighing, feeling the stress growing. "Hoseok, Jin, we will be the ones to hold them off as long as possible. Hoseok your job is a more offense, as electricity you will be able to hit all their weapons. They might have items that are non-conductible, so you need to aim for any areas that will shut them out. Jin, since we're going through undergrowth you are only defense, and only if necessary. Fire is dangerous and we can't risk leaving a flaring marker for our position. I am able to set shields and make us invisible so that we can keep ourselves and the back group safe." Namjoon using a nickname for Seokjin had gone largely unnoticed. The group was too focused on what he was saying, on the severity of the situation. If they didn't act correctly they would all die, or be forced into servitude to a man who simply wanted to conquer.
"I can fight!" Yunghee shivered from her position, pulling her arms in closer to her chest as she spoke.
"No you can't," Yoongi said softly.
"Yes I can! If I am almost dying of cold here, then imagine what I could do to them!" Her voice rose as she glared at the group of boys. She felt useless, she had no place. Even though she was dragged into their life, she wouldn't even stay there and that scared her. If Namjoon was right then they would all be splitting up, and she knew she couldn't go home. She would have to make a new life and identity. Maybe it would be easier if something happened to her on the way out, if something happened while she was defending them.
"You're not going to kill yourself!" Yoongi snapped, his eyes bore into hers knowingly. "You don't know what abilities you have, all you know is you are cold. That means nothing. That may be all you get. You have no place in a fight, don't pretend you do." Yunghee tried to stare him down, she tried to glare back but the longer she stared the more uncomfortable she felt. Her lips started turning blue as her emotions rolled through her body with a ferocious chill.
"He's right." Namjoon nodded, not catching the look the two had shared. "You're a liability. You're going to get escorted with Jimin and Taehyung."
"I don't want Jungkook fighting." Seokjin pulled Yunghee into his arms, not catching the way Yoongi's lips twisted from the fire-makers actions.
"The others can't." Namjoon sighed, looking at the eldest boy.
"I don't care, I don't want Jungkook to use his abilities."
"I'll be fine." Jungkook shuffled on the ground, looking at Yunghee before flushing and looking away. "I am strong too."
"Of course you're strong." Hoseok's voice was hoarse as he spoke. "I agree with Seokjin, he's not going to use his ability."
"Fine, then only Hoseok and I can be the guard as you six retreat, Seokjin, you'll have to be the defense and offense. You have to be careful, if you light anything on fire we are just as likely to die." Namjoon relented, eying the four patients. He had noticed the effects Jungkook's abilities had on him, how the boy would grow tired and dreary. He hadn't thought it was that serious, but the four clearly disagreed.
"I understand." Seokjin nodded, his lips pursing. It bothered him how everyone forced themselves on him. Just because he kept quiet and catered to their needs so naturally they assumed he was someone without opinion, some characterless gentleman who had no real ideas. His eyes squeezed shut and his fingers wrapped around Yunghee just a little tighter as he tried to banish the thoughts. It had been years since those insecurities had bothered him. He never had time to think about them. He needed ignore them before they got in the way, he had to. He couldn't be the one to cause conflict and risk everyone's lives.
"Go to sleep, tomorrow I will have a rout set up and we will head out." Namjoon gathered all of the fish bones, getting off the ground. He ignored everyone's reactions and walked out of the downtrodden house. The bones fell from his hand and into an empty hole, before he kicked sand over it. He was scared. He was an amateur, he didn’t know what he was doing, but they were relying on him. He had to make the right plan, he had to keep them safe. They had gone through enough in their lives. They needed safety.
