SPOILERS

Do not read ahead if you have not watched Season Three of Voltron. I will move this to it's own book soon, if I have more information about anything Voltron that is actual information and not me geeking out.
I know that "The Paladin's Handbook: Official Guidebook of Voltron Legendary Defender" (Pre-order it on Amazon) has Keith as half human/half Galra, but, take a second to think.
What if he was half Altean and half Galra?
Now, I l know he does not have the traditional Altea markings (pointy ears and cheek markings), but remember, Alteans can shapeshift their body. Changing skin pigments, hair color, body shape, ect.. At his early age it(shapeshifting) was a defense mechanism, he probably doesn't know that he is truly Altean. We never know if there is a time limit to the ability, or if they need to continuously think about it. What if he looks human because that is what his mind has told him ever since he has seen what humans look like? Allura said it herself it is to make her look friendly towards the species and to "blend in". To blend in? We see this in season one, but only by Allura. Coran had a chance to do so in the Space Mall episode of season two, but chose to not do so. So hopefully, as Allura had said, it is for ALL Alteans, and not just royalty. I might have proof. First, what I believe, then you'll notice when everything aligns with the Voltron timeline.
                              PICTURE THIS:

Living Alteans, because who does not think that King Alfor would evacuate his planet, sending everyone to different corners of the universe quite like the Lions, they have survive 10,000 years in Galra dominating space. Eventually, they either married to other runaway Alteans, other species of aliens (as whoever they like congrats!), or not able to and die off (sorry, it is the circle of life). Well, some male Altean met with a (very hot) female rebel fighter Galra (Blade of Marmora), and decided to do whatever people do (keeping this PG because THIS IS A CHILDREN'S SHOW, though I am twenty and watching a children's show). That brought about..... KEITH.
Keith looks like a pure Altean, except for his eyes and hair, of course the hair is so fluffy even as an infant, and his eyes reflect the normal Galra pupils. Because of Keith's heritage, though would be great with the Blade, but due to what the Blade has to do, rebel fighting business and all that. His mother and father thought it would be good to let Keith not be raised in the Blade of Marmora (remember, we do not know how old Lotor is, so maybe because of Lotor before he was exiled, he was still looking for half Galrans). Now, here is where it gets sad.
Keith was raised by his father, but they were attacked by the Galra. Keith's mother, probably working on the inside as a spy or something, takes Keith, who is still young enough to not have memory for this (people can remember things as young as three years old, but the range is between 3-5 years of age, the median range is 4.7 years old), and runs away from the fight. She and Keith make it to Earth, but she cannot stay due to her being Galra, and she obviously cannot blend into the society. But, guess who has Altean genes?
Keith does. Because of his early age (we are putting it to a young, YOUNG child, no older than three), his ability to shapeshift would have been classified as a defense mechanism. Why would this ability be a defense mechanism for a child on planet Earth? (Rhetorical question we all know that humans do not like things that are unknown, unfamiliar, and different.) His mother told him something, something that is always in his mind even if he specifically cannot remember it, and he shapeshifted his body to look like a human. Hiding his Altean markings, hiding his fluffy hair as best as he could, if he had purple skin, he made it pale like a human (He is supposedly from Texas according to the southern sounding 'father', which I will talk quickly below) he pictured in his Blade of Marmora trial, and he cannot be that pale and be from Texas. Not without forever burns or a tan, I should know, I do not know how many people from my campus are from Texas). His mother left him in the care of a random guy/family, or in the adoption system, whichever one you guys want to choose that is less sad.
