The day went by rather slow. Dominique and I had most of our classes together so we got to know each other. The final bell rang and I basically sprinted out the door.

Dominique and I walked towards the buses only to be greeted by Carl and Nick.

"Yo Dominique! I've been missing you" Carl called out to her. No greeting to me. Typical.

"I already told you and your cornrows to leave me alone" she responded causing me to laugh.

"Why you gotta dis the 'rows?" he asked pretending to be hurt.

"You're just a white boy playing dress up"

"You hurt my heart, and my soul" he responded trying to sound sophisticated.

"Carl c'mon leave her alone, you're embarrassing yourself" I finally cut in.

"You both only see skin color, Nick's my brother from juvie, he sees my dark black soul" Carl said.

"Carl! Fiona's pregnant and I want you to talk her into keeping it. You too Blair" Debbie said as she walked over to us.

"White girl I don't know you!" he said back to her. She rolled her eyes and walked away.

"Really? Because I'm pretty sure you used to take baths with her" I said crossing my arms.

"I'm outta here, text me if you wanna hang Blair, not you Carl" Dom said as she walked away.

"Blair you have to hook me up with her!" Carl begged. I hated to admit it but it made me jealous. I liked being the only girl in Carl's life he wasn't related to.

"Carl, see me in my office" said our principal.

"Shit Carl he knows about the guns" I whispered.

"Oh shit" he said as he followed the principal back into the school.

Nick and I patiently waited for Carl to return. He finally walked out the door looking... smug?

"What happened?" I immediately asked.

"We're in business"

"No shit really?" I asked in shock.

"Yeah I can't believe it either, yo how 'bout you tell Dom you wanna hang and Ill tag along" he said quickly changing the subject back to Dominique.

"What's in it for me?" I asked wanting something out of this. If I had to sit through his flirting I definitely need a bribe.

"Lip'll do your homework for a week"

"Two weeks and you've got a deal" I said crossing my arms.

"Fine. Whatever. Text Dom now please" he said giving me puppy eyes.

I scoffed and pulled out my phone.

Blair: Hey Dom! Any chance you want to hang out today?

Dominique: Yeah!! Swing by whenever!

But first we had to get Liam from daycare and then we started walking to Dominique's house, Nick came as well.

Carl took the lead and walked up to Dominique's front door and knocked.

A man, who Im guessing is her father opened the door.

"Dom here?" Carl inquired.

"No"

"I see her behind you! I want her to meet my brother. Dom, this is my brother. Say what up, Liam"

"What up, Liam?" Liam said making me laugh.

"Your brother? Or your bro?"  Dom's dad asked.

"My blood, sir. Same mom, same pops. Dom be calling me white all day, so I had to make a point, sir. Just 'cause his skin is a little darker than mine ain't no reason to call a nigga white" Carl said causing Dom's dad to laugh. He told Carl he could have a head start and then he started counting backwards from ten.

Carl, Nick, and Liam all took off running down the street.

"Blair! Come in!" Dominique said when she realized I was still standing there.

We went up to her room to watch TV and hang out.

"So what's with Carl? Is he always like this?" She asked.

"No juvie definitely changed him, but he's not a bad guy he's actually really sweet" I said thinking fondly of him.

"Do you like him or something?" she asked turning her head from the TV to look at me.

"What? N-no I could never!" I responded, taken aback by her question.

"Well ok, I might give him a chance" she said, making my blood boil.

"He'll be happy to hear it" I said under my breath.
