The end of the day bell rings and Roslyn wastes no time darting away from us after spending her entire day showing us around. I hope she doesn't think this means she gets to be alone. I am not trying to be a creeper or anything. I just don't want her to be killed on her way home.
We have to walk home with her to make sure that she gets there okay.
The girls and I run through the halls to catch up to her. "Can we talk about earlier outside?" I ask, hoping to explain that I am not a creep who wanted to touch her but that I was just protecting her from imminent danger. Now I just have to find a way to do that without letting her know that I am not a human like she is.
"No." She replies simply as she continues to walk, picking up her speed. I think she is hoping to lose us in the crowd. If she can get herself in the middle of enough people, it just might work. She is very hard to keep track of.
She is pissed. I know it. I can hear her thoughts.
I look away for one second, grabbing Jackie as she is accidentally shoved out of the way. In that time, I lost Roslyn in the crowd of teenagers trying to exit the school. Her plan worked perfectly. I can't seem to locate her in the hundreds of people anymore.
I exit the building and stand at the top of the stairs, looking over everyone's heads, searching for Roslyn. How did she slip away so fast? She is incredibly speedy for a human. I have never seen someone escape my radar like this.
This must be how she survived the wolf attack. If she can be quick enough to lose me, she could definitely fight off a wolf. She is a truly marvelous human.
I spot Roslyn as she turns against the crowd and begins walking dow the sidewalk rather than getting onto a bus. "Come on." I say as I grab my sisters' arms and yank them in the direction of Roslyn. "We have to go after her."
"I wouldn't do that if I were you. She's pretty angry." Jackie tries to talk me out of following Roslyn home. She is suggesting that we give her some space. That is just not something I am comfortable with doing right now. The stakes are too high. "Did you hear her thoughts? She's pissed at all of us right now. You specifically."
"That's why we have to go after her." I reply, half listening to what she is saying. We need to catch up to her before something bad happens. If she is angry, she will be focusing on that rather than her surroundings. That is the perfect time to attack. "Plus, she can't be that mad at me. I was protecting her."
Jackie grabs my arm to stop me from moving. I have always been amazed at her strength. She has always been stronger than me even though she is three years younger. "I mean, you grabbed her without asking. That's a big no-no for girls, or anyone really. Especially strangers. That wasn't cool what you did earlier even if you did it to protect her. She's not going to see it that way. She doesn't know what we know. She wants to be alone. Give her some space."
"Listen to me Jackie." I grab her and force her to continue walking with me. "We both know that it was a werewolf that attacked her. And we both know it would have killed her but something must have scared it off before it could finish. We need to protect her or else it's going to happen again." I try to explain my reasoning behind this.
Julie nods her head. She agrees with me. At least I have one of my sisters on my side in this.
Jackie shakes her head. "I don't think it would be dumb enough to attack her during broad daylight." She walks in front of me, trying to slow me down.
"I think if she's alone and it can get her into those woods again, it won't matter what time of day it is." I remind her that these monsters do not have the same thought processes that we do. "I think it will be that dumb. That's the problem."
Jackie nods. "Lets go."
