James
Roslyn, Jackie, Zack, and I walk around our block in search of the party we were all invited to. Roslyn said the party is being thrown to support her neighbor who used to babysit her when she was younger. "It's like kind of a charity party I guess. They are throwing it to raise money. They have raffle baskets and prizes you can buy. It's to help raise money for her open heart surgery next month. She's done so much for this neighborhood so we are trying to return the favor." Roslyn explains to all of us who have not been here long enough to be on the receiving end of this woman's kindness. "She is always giving to her community. It's time that her community gives back,"
Roslyn smiles thinking of everything this woman has done for her over the years. She seems to really care for her old babysitter in a way she probably can't explain to anyone.
"Oh look at that cute dog!" Zack points across the street. I turn to look for the creature. Roslyn smiles and searches with me.
"Where?" She asks. "I don't see a dog- James!" She shouts as she is yanked away from me.
I turn to Jackie before leaping into action. "Do what you have to." I instruct her, knowing if she jumps in with me, it will leave Zack in a few compromising positions. He will be alone out here which opens him up to attacks. Or, he will follow her inside because he is trying to be a good boyfriend which will also open him up for attack. Plus, he will ultimately see Jackie's true form, something she has desperately been trying to keep from him.
Jackie nods, quickly thinking of her options as I spring into the trees.
Why does this always have to happen? Right when we all think things are going well, bam! Attack. This is totally not fair.
Well, I suppose I shouldn't be the one silently complaining here. Roslyn is the one on the receiving ends of these attacks. Though it does hurt me knowing that I am the reason. I moved into town which ultimately brought the damn wolves with me. My family knew we would be endangering the lives of anyone we met.
I thought I would be strong enough to protect her.
