You will listen and you will answer. When you hear us calling you will respond without delay. For when an angel calls you, you know your time has come. Listen to your senses, listen to our song. Come to us Gray. Listen to what your heart wants.
Gray snapped awake like a whip. His hammock tossed him off like a fish that was too small. He found himself on the dew covered surface of his ship and he felt blood pouring from his nose. He assumed it was on impact. It was unbearable to think that they possibly did it to him.
Rolling over on his back he grabbed on to his chest. He felt his heart trying to escape like a caged animal. His breathing became heavier and heavier. However without a solid chance to calm down, he felt a thin piece of metal land on his chest.
"Morning sunshine," he heard Sirus laugh loudly as he casually walked away.
Gray lifted his hand up to touch his nose which was still leaking the red liquid. He tilted the crown of his head on the floor in an attempt to lessen the amount. While he did so, he reached down and felt the carved metallic end of the pole that was on top of him. It was a spear; he was already being put back to work.
He slowly turned around and got to his knees, using all of his energy to stand up. He angrily grimaced at Sirus as he watched him use a pair of rusty binoculars to look out at the empty water. He latched on to his weapon as he stood still. As he did Leon walked in front of him, this time wearing his black sailor's uniform.
"We need food hunter," Leon grunted dully.
"Who died and made you two captains?" Gray snapped back, still lacking the sleep his body begged for.
"The captain," Leon huffed before walking away as well.
Gray felt anger swell up in his body. He remembered why him and Cayde always chose to avoid the two men that he was now destined to be with.
"I escaped death yesterday," Gray snapped. "Are we going to even consider that at all?"
As he felt his nails dig in to his flesh on his opposite hand, a hand landed on his shoulder. He instantly knew who it was. Turning around he saw a messy brown haired girl with a grin on her face. She lightened the mood just enough to avoid a fight.
"How about fish for breakfast?" she said happily. "I'll help."
"Thank goodness for you Tessica," Gray said looking at Sirus and Leon who were continuing to do nothing useful on the other end of their tiny vessel. "They owe you their lives."
"Careful sailor," Sirus snarl under his breath.
Gray accepted the verbal warning as he strode over to the completely opposite end of the boat. Tessica followed quietly, grabbing a spear of her own. As the got there, Gray growled at the item in his hand.
"We obviously couldn't grab fishing rods," he snarled.
"Well, you did, but," she replied awkwardly.
"So, we are to stab the fish?" Gray chuckled sarcastically.
"Actually, kind of,"
Gray held on to the boat as he leaned over the edge to look at the water below him. He could visibly see nothing there, nothing but sea green water and a jelly fish. He laughed to himself. He sinfully wished to be back in a hallucination. There was at least food in them.
As he whined inside of his head he caught a glimpse of Tessica's scrawny arm zoom past him and into the water. As she retrieved her catch, he found himself laughing foolishly. He looked curiously at the jellyfish she had jabbed viciously.
"The best breakfast," Tessica giggled. "Jelly sandwiches, minus the sandwich part."
"Yum," Gray chuckled. After her little joke he found himself finding a bit more motivation to hunt for food. A jellyfish was obviously not going to cut it.
He studied the water intensely before he found himself holstering himself up onto the side of the boat. Tessica quickly grabbed a hold of his arm as he splashed his feet in the water. He laughed quietly to himself.
"I'm going to have to go in there is we are going to eat," he told her.
"But, the," she replied with slight panic in her voice.
Gray tried not to think about them as he looked into his friend's worried eyes.
"You'll just have to sacrifice Leon for me," he joked.
Tessica looked back at Leon who was sanding down a whistle type object out of a piece of barrel then back at Gray. She let go of his arm and shook her head humored.
"Good plan," she agreed.
After hearing what he took as a go for it, Gray through himself over the boat. The feeling of the water made him want to beg for Tessica to pull him back in, but he tried to shake it away. It was about surviving now; it was about more than just him.
He finally was able to fully submerse himself under the water with one last breath. As he did, he dived down deeper to get to where he knew would be a bit more life. He had always practiced holding his breath, making the whole situation sufficiently easier to deal with. His eyes caught sight of a medium sized tail about a foot away from him, without any second thought he used all of his upper arm strength to puncture the creature. He then expeditiously swam back up to the boat carrying the weight behind him.
As he reached his destination he gasped for air loudly enough for Tessica to hear him. To his surprise she was already looking down at him happily. Upon noticing so, he brought his catch up to the surface as well. Tessica's eyes widened with excitement as she saw the creature he had grabbed.
"Is that a freaking Mahi Mahi!" she screamed thrilled.
Gray looked over at the giant fish as he listened to footstep run to his end of the boat. The animal had an enlarged forehead proving to him as well that it truly was a Mahi Mahi. The dark blue of its fins lightened in to green as his eyes went down its body. He smiled wildly at the sight.
"Atta boy hunter," he heard Sirus encourage from above him. "Leon, light the stove. We eat, and then we get back to work."
Gray heightened the beast up to Tessica who grabbed it with no hesitation. Gray Laughed again as he watched her kiss the thing on the mouth before holding it even tighter. She then went to hand it to Leon who instead reached down to Gray to help him back up on to the boat.
"You get first choice of cut Gray," he exclaimed before pulling Gray back up into the boat.
Gray rolled his eyes in jest as his feet hit the boats floor again. Soaking wet he reached out for Leon's hand, to which he was accepted.
"I know better than to listen better to a sailor who is hungry," Gray twittered.
"Thank you," Leon returned, an apology spread over his face.
Tessica jumped between them as she lifted herself on both of their shoulders.
"Let's eat!" she hollered. Her joy bounced off the waters.
Little did they know, someone else was listening and they were waiting for food as well.
