I woke up in my mattress, not remembering much from last night at all. I put my head in my hands and sat cross-legged in the bed. I had to admit, I felt great. That was the first full night of sleep I had with no nightmares or demons of any kind. But I couldn't remember what happened yesterday. It was more like a puddle than a memory, but that puddle gave me a warm feeling in my stomach for some reason. Summer was gone for school again, so her bed was empty and made. I suddenly hoped we hadn't ended on bad terms the other night. Maybe I can do something for her.
I got up and walked out into the hallway but someone grabbed my wrist with urgency. My head looked back to see who seized me, and I was surprised to see Morty. He had strength for a little kid. His eyes were filled with worry and pressure.
"Morty what is it? What's wrong?" I asked, trying to take my wrist back. His grip tightened.
"Come with me, h-hurry." He whisper-shouted. He dragged me quickly to his room and slammed the door shut. He came over as I tried to study my new surroundings. I haven't been in Morty's room yet. He went to a corner of his room and uncloaked a cardboard box.
"What's in there Morty? What is that?" I asked, a bit nervous. His eyes cast down to his blue slippers as he held the box. He was in yellow pajamas.
"I was looking for something in the garage while Rick was in his room last night. I-I found something glowing in the corner of the garage, so I went to pick it up...an-and I found this." He opened the box and handed me a glowing pointed crystal. It had sharp edges and pointed tops on both sides, a sharp six-sided cylinder. I turned over the crystal with both hands and read one side in a white flowing script.
SCALON SYSTEM, PLANET REMONA SENT TO PLANET EARTH FORWARDED: TO RICK SANCHEZ/ SENDER ANONYMOUS
"What is this Morty, I don't understand?" I asked. He looked at me as if the answer was obvious.
"It's a part of the E-Light message you destroyed. Every E-Light message comes with this Luminet Crystal with its address on it so you can reply to the message. These can't be destroyed by light, so that's why it was saved. I-If we can go to this planet, we can find the person who sent those Vordin monsters!" Morty exclaimed, sounding proud of himself. I knelt down and hugged him strongly, tears burning at the edges of my eyes. Morty had his arms at his sides, nervously giggling at the awkward situation.
"Morty, thank you! Oh my God, this is fantastic! I can get revenge on the creature piece of shit that...that-that ruined my life! I...I don't know what I'll do but when I get him, I'll make him pay." I said, my voice low and furious. I curled my fist while still holding Morty's shoulder. Morty tried to back up when he saw my fist but I hugged him again more gently this time. He calmed down and hugged my neck. When I looked up at him, his face was a deep shade of red. I rolled my eyes with a smile and got up.
"Thank you so much, Morty. I don't know what else to say except for thanking you so much. You've saved my life and you're helping catch my family's...." I couldn't bring myself to say the word "Killer." I knew I would start to cry again. I just kept on thanking him until he held my shoulders and convinced me it was the moral thing to do. But I couldn't stop. This was the address, this was the guy. I could have revenge and closure, and I can sleep consecutively.
"But wait. If this crystal doesn't get destroyed, and it comes with every E-Light message, then...why didn't Rick tell me about it that night and you had to find it?" I asked. Of course, he wouldn't know the answer to this but I had to ask anyway. He shrugged, not knowing how to reply.
