Rick, Morty and I all recovered from the gas attack outside, narrowly escaping with the breath in our lungs. No one was around inside the building. I was going to speak, but Rick came up from behind and clamped his hand over my mouth. I put on a face of worry and grabbed his forearm as a reaction.
"We...can't...speak. There are monitors everywhere that will send the entire....fleet of guards they have to take us down if they hear the slightest noise." Rick whispered into my ear. His words were interrupted by him swallowing back his burps. I nodded, understanding the situation but my nervousness made me wring Rick's lab coat sleeve. He released me from his hold and swiped a finger on my shoulder. He made a gesture to follow his lead. I took hold of Morty's hand to comfort him and myself. His hand was soft but cold.
Rick took a tentative step forward, his brown shoe landing on the ground before him without an echo. It made no sound. He nodded to me and Morty to step forward. I took a step with Morty; Morty taking a step on a blue tile and me taking a step on a white tile. They made little to no sound. We started to move quicker towards where we were headed. We slowly but quickly went down an adjacent hallway to some empty booths that resembled bank teller windows. Morty and I were careful with our steps as Rick took the lead, trying his hardest to hold back his burps. It looked like it hurt.
All three of us did our weird crab walk along some hallways. The walls were all blank and white with black doors. There were no directions anywhere and they were empty of people, or beings of any kind. Rick looked down a few hallways to see if there was anything significant, but it was the same blank design. He quickly became impatient, with a small huff at every stop.
Finally, I found something. I pointed out a sign among others that read Sanctions Department with a single scratched hand. I didn't know where that came from. Rick nodded to the sign and we made our way over. There were many turns and twists along the way. Turning one hallway, there was an alien creature nonchalantly walking out of a room with a black door. It turned back to talk to another alien in a guttural language. The alien had blue skin, normal black hair, and three purple antennas coming out of its head. It had eyes and nose and a mouth just like any human, its sudden appearance triggered a flashback to the alien monster that Anthony turned into burned before my eyes. I jumped back with a shriek and fell on the floor. The loud sharp noise triggered an alarm. The entire hallway went red.
"Get up, come on!" Rick urged me. I got up with Morty's help and we ran full speed ahead to the remaining hallways. We skidded over to a long one filled with more identical black doors. All three of us ran past them, Rick's coat flapping in the wind as we ran. My cut arm still stung with pain as I moved it back and forth, but I ran faster as we saw armed guards trooping toward us. Rick grabbed Morty's wrist and the shoulder of my shirt and pressed on.
"The room is up ahead!" Morty shouted through his panic. A large double glass door read Sanctions Office, but by then the guards had caught up to us. They had clunky white armor with black mesh at the joints and a black visor covering their faces. They were carrying big bulky guns with multiple scopes and attachments. I feared they would use them on me.
Rick took both his hands off me and Morty and pushed open the glass double doors. He wasn't expecting them to open so freely. He slammed on the blue and white tiles, his body emerging through the door. Morty and I were still running at full speed. I tried to slow down but Rick's legs tripped Morty and me I struck the floor hard, the dust moats clouding away from my impact. I fell on my hurt arm and I winced in pain. I moaned and moved to touch it with my right arm, but the sharp click of a gun trigger on the back of my head made me freeze.
