27: The Order of The Phoenix

JUNE 25, 1978
Undisclosed Location, 11:00 pm

"WHY DID DUMBLEDORE HAVE to set up this meeting so late?" Sirius asked, yawning in the process. He, Arabella, James, Remus, and Peter were sat around a long table with a few of the other students in their year. James was particularly surprised with his fiancée, Lily Evans, also being in attendance.

"Welcome." Everyone turned to the source of the booming voice, only to see none other than Albus Dumbledore himself. "I have handpicked each and every one of you to join this order for a particular reason. Whether it is your exemplary combat skills or your talent in potion making, you all are here for a reason. And I thank all of you for graciously accepting."

"This is the order of the phoenix." Dumbledore said, looking at each and every person who was sat at the table. They all shifted in their seats and looked at their old headmaster expectantly. "You all know the absolute terror that has been going around the streets in recent times.  As Mr Potter would put it, it is all that the daily prophet keeps writing about."

James' cheeks slowly turned red in embarrassment as he slowly sank down in his seat. Arabella fought the urge to laugh at him and continued to listen to Dumbledore.

"I founded this organization years ago and along with the ministry, we will continue to defy and oppose all these dark forces. No matter what happens, we must remain strong. The darkness will only win if we let them get the best of us."

"This will be our first and last meeting that is face to face. We cannot let anybody know of our actions as it will sabotage our future plans. The moment that the enemy gets wind of whet we are doing, we have lost. I have developed a way to communicate using our patronuses."

Every person seated in the table leaned forward in interest and hung on to every single word that Dumbledore spoke. Lily Evans and Marlene McKinnon were even taking notes so that they don't forget. Once Dumbledore finished explaining, he bid them farewell and apparated out of the room, leaving the former Hogwarts students alone.

"That was something." Sirius spoke, breaking the almost eerie silence that has set upon the room.

"I don't think I could've said it better myself." James said, laughing nervously. "So you are all coming to our wedding right?"

"James!" Lily, scolded, but she was laughing. A lighter atmosphere was now set upon the room as everyone joined in on the laughter, contrasting the somewhat dark environment and situation.

"We wouldn't miss it for the world, Prongs." Remus said, patting James on the back and smiling softly at Lily.

"Great! Because we are moving it up." James exclaimed, grinning at everyone brightly.

"What?!" Everyone asked in shock and surprise.

"Don't you think it's too soon? You guys are only eighteen!" Marlene McKinnon exclaimed, looking at the two worried.

"We've talked about it and we are sure that this is what we want to do." Lily Evans said, walking over to James and grabbing his hand. The two looked at each other and smiled. Arabella Arroway looked at her friends and saw the love that they had for each other. She looked at them and understood where they were coming from, wanting to get married before something bad happened to either of them; before the war would reach it's peak. She wouldn't know what she would do without Sirius by her side through all of this and imagined that was what James and Lily were thinking and feeling right now.

"I think that's a fantastic idea." She said, giving her two friends a reassuring look. Beside her, Sirius Black was giving her a small smile and reached for her hand which she gladly held.
