ARABELLA ARROWAY WASN'T THE same after that day in the Whomping Willow. She wasn't her usual sassy, happy self. In fact, she wasn't herself at all. She barely spoke to anybody. She would only speak when it was absolutely necessary, like in classes. Lily Evans was the only person she talked to for more than five minutes.
She felt numb. Her days were spent just waking up, going to class, eating, going to more classes, then sleeping. She avoided contact with the rest of the Marauders, sitting far away from them during classes and the great hall.
Losing Sirius as a friend almost took the life out of her. She wanted to speak to James, Remus, and Peter but she never had the will to do so. She was still mad at them for what they had done. Even though she somehow felt betrayed by their actions, she missed them. She missed their antics, the inside jokes, Merlin, she even misses the pranks they would sometimes play on her.
It was the beginning of Christmas break and Arabella found herself in the Great Hall just a few hours before she had to go back home for the holidays. She had already packed her belongings and was just waiting for the time to pass before the train had to leave for King's Cross. In the previous years, she would spend Christmas at Hogwarts with the Marauders; however, she wasn't sure if she could face them this year, so she decided to go home instead.
She was reading a muggle book that Lily had given to her as an early Christmas present. She was so engrossed at the happenings in the book that she didn't notice the people who just sat down in front of her.
"Who's Sherlock Holmes?" she heard a familiar voice ask.
"Fictional muggle detective." she replied, not even looking up from her book.
"We're sorry."
Arabella looked up to find James, Remus, and Peter sitting in front of her with sad, hopeful looks on their face.
Arabella sighed, "Why'd you do it?" she asked putting her book down and looking at the three.
"We just missed him so much." James said exasperatedly, speaking for the three of them. "When he came up to us with an idea for a prank, we got excited that we couldn't say no to him. We just thought that he was coming back to us."
"It was too late when we found out on who. He just led us to the willow where we found Snape. He just started saying things to him and we couldn't stop him." Remus continued.
"We just wanted our best friend back." James said, looking down.
"That doesn't excuse what you did-"
"We know that and we're really sorry." Peter said, cutting Arabella off, "We said sorry to Snape as well but I don't think he believed us."
"He didn't." Remus said, "I'm quite sure that if Dumbledore weren't there, he would've hexed us."
"At least you apologized to Snape. Or at least tried to apologize." Arabella sighed.
"Does that mean you forgive us?" James asked hopefully.
"While I still believe that it doesn't excuse your actions," Arabella started and the boys lowered their heads, "I understand that you miss Sirius and since you apologized, I forgive you."
"Really?" Peter asked, wide-eyed.
"Really." Arabella said, smiling slightly at the three boys.
James, Remus, and Peter went to the other side of the table and embraced Arabella in a group hug. The hug lasted a bit longer than usual, earning them a few strange looks.
"We've missed you Ara." Remus said, smiling fondly, sitting next to Arabella. James sat on her other side while Peter sat next to him.
"I missed you guys too."
