As Ashley came towards the end of her set she looked out into the crowd her eyes wondered around all the bodies and she caught a sight of the girl who had consumed her time dancing carelessly among everyone else. She smiled through her singing there eyes had grown locked. Jersey tucked her hair behind her ear and looked down. Ashley knew that if she didn't look away too she would forget the words to her own song.
Music was her passion and she never felt more safe than she did on a stage or simply writing and singing. Yet all she wanted to do was join Jersey in the crowd and sway to the music with her.
As she played her last song 'ghost' Ashley saw Jersey take a shot. Ashley saw the way she downed it quickly as if she was trying to forget something so part of her grew worried.
She smiled wide and thanked everyone for coming out to watch her as well as to enjoy themselves. Walking off the stage she searched the crowd making her way through the sea of bodies until she caught sight of Jersey throwing her head back in laughter as Micheal said something in her ear.
Ashley put her hand to Jersey's lower back causing her to turn around. Knowing this moment could go in several direction Micheal walked away because out of all the directions he knew none of them had to involve him.
"Hey you made it." Ashley spoke her voice filled with warmth.
"Yesssss I did and you where...amazing." Jersey spoke with a little bit of a slur.
"Well someone is having a a good time." Ashley teased with a laugh.
"Yeah the nights been interesting it was ehh and then it was fun and now we're here." Jersey rambled trying not to make eye contact.
The slight tension in the air made Ashely want to ask if everything was okay but the music grew louder and she knew a conversation would be something for another time.
A random song started to play and Ashely saw Jersey's face light up so not hesitating she grabbed her hand and guided her to the middle of crowd.
Jersey stood motionless causing Ashley too lean down to her ear.
"Please dance with me?" A slight smile formed on Jersey's lips.
How could she say no?
So they danced Jersey stumbled every now and then causing Ashley to laugh leaving Jersey with an even bigger smile.
As the mood of the music shifted people started to get into pairs. Jersey stood still for a second her smile fading as she went to walk off Ashley grabbed her hand and pulled her in so that Jersey's back was pressed against the front of her body. Ashley's hands made their way to both sides of her hips.
Ashley leaned into her ear and whispered
"Is this okay?"
All of Jersey knew that the alcohol had definitely kicked in because her sober mind would not have been this calm. Jersey tilted her head up and locked eyes with her they're a faced inches apart.
Ashley began to lean both of them breathless the moment seeming perfect and something in Jersey felt like maybe that's all it was, a moment at a party that was too good to be true.
"I'm thirsty." she spoke breaking away from the moment making her way to the kitchen. Ashley stood for a second trying to process what had just occurred. Knowing now was the time for a conversation.
