Chapter 2: The apple never falls far from the tree.

So now what am I supposed to do?

I'm walking toward my... family I suppose, it feels weird to call them that. Being as I've hated them more than anything in the world for 6 years or more.

I guess the main reason I hate them so much, is that they get to have the life I've always wanted. I really don't think it's too much to ask that I have two parents who love each other and pay attention to their daughter. Maybe show up when she has a school event every once in a while without her getting on her knees and begging. Yeah, I have to do that to get them to come to my choir concerts, that's probably why I wasn't in it last year.

Danielle's face lights up as I start to walk up the polished wooden stairs to the deck, fancy... we never had anything this nice... Humph I forget Chris is swimming in money.

I shake the disdain thoughts from my head and put on my fakest smile.

"Hey Cortney!" Chris smiles and I swear to god I can see the hatred behind his eyes.

"Hello Chris." I grumble. Before I can say anything more Danielle riggles out of his arms and runs towards me.

"Tortney!!!!" She squeals and jumps up into my arms, I hold her above my head laughing, we've always had a relationship like this. She's my little Danihoo!

I bring the little ball of excitement closer to me in a hug I've been dying to give her for five months. You say you hate your siblings try having one that loves and looks up to you so much she cries every time you leave. It breaks my heart...

"Hey Dani how are you doing today? Are you excited to see me?" I laugh breezily completely forgetting Chris and my mom are watching.

"I'm good! Is Tortney staying forever?" She squeaks on the last syllable and smiles crazily.

"I'm staying for a whole year! does that make you happy Danihoo?" my smile widens when she claps her hands excitedly practically screaming.

"Well let's carry your stuff in then." My mother interrupts smiling at me. I try my best not to frown at her, she's my mom and she's trying to be nice.

"Yeah ok... I don't have that much." I say and shrug.

"Oh! if you need anything we can get it tomorrow! I was wondering if you wanted to have a mother daughter day..." She smiles shyly and hopefully at me.

"Sure... Sounds cool." I say and even though my face is blank she beams at me.

"Oh I just can't wait!" She squeals and giggles like a school girl. Who is this happy loving person and what the hell happened to my mom.
