We sat on the cliff, watching the city breathe beneath our feet. It was pretty breath taking, to have a bird's eye view on so many lives. I occasionally glanced up at Otabek, who appeared to be in deep concentration. He hadn't said anything and neither had I, and I was beginning to think I had upset him, "Otabek...?"
He blinked and turned to face me, " Yeah?" "You look... odd. Are you alright?" I bit my lip, hoping I hadn't sounded impolite. Otabek really was the only person I would care about those kind of things with. "I'm fine. We should probably go now though." I nodded in agreement. I was still a little excited about what Otabek's surprise for me was. He'd already shocked me once today.
We began to walk through the forest again, but it didn't seem so scary this time. My hand found Otabek's and gave it a tight squeeze. I could sense he hadn't expected that but a reassuringly tightened grip gave me all the approval I needed.
Once we came back towards the motorbike, Otabek proceeded to take a helmet and put it on me. At first, I opened my mouth to object and, in all honesty, I am capable of putting on my own helmet, but then realised he was simply doing it to be nice. So I allowed him to adjust the straps and he got on the bike itself, revving up the engine and taking off as soon as I jumped on behind him.
We came back the same way, but I didn't feel like Otabek would take me back to the rink. Even if he wanted to do a joint skate with me, I would expect him to take me somewhere classier than the community ice rink. It was my birthday still, after all. I had heard he did DJing at clubs and that got my hopes up. Technically, I was still underage for these things but I could see Otabek sneaking me in... perhaps into a special VIP lounge? I would like that a lot...
Before I could even develop this little fantasy in my head any longer, Otabek came to a halt. I looked around. Wait... this was our street? He had taken me straight home? I frowned. So much for a surprise... This really was quite a disappointment. I reluctantly got off the motorbike and slipped my helmet off. Maybe I had been right; Otabek probably just saw me as a little kid he could tease and then bring home again. I tried hard to ignore the feeling of betrayal in my chest.
"You ready to go inside, Yuri?" "Yeah... thanks for the ride. I'll see you around then." I began to slowly walk to the front door when I felt a and clasp my shoulder, "Wait! I'm coming in with you! Did you think I'd leave?" I saw how concerned he looked and felt guilty to doubt him, "Oh... right. There's not much happening in here though..." I opened the door.
