her;

          "Now tables turned, lessons learned,
                                                    You got burnt."

              - The Vamps, Brokenhearted

"Do you think he'll ask me to the spring formal?" Matilda sung while staring her way towards the boy leant up against a locker, holding his skateboard close to him.

"You already know your parents wouldn't like him what-so-ever." I let out a small cough.

"At least I'm not head over heels for Lucas Robert Hemmings, the worse possible kid in this town to ever like."

"I am not." I stated pushing my books into my locker while zipping up my bag.

"Oh trust me, Maddie told me everything." she let out a laugh before thinning her lips back together.

"Half of it was probably lies." I said. Matilda rolled her eyes at me in a pity way before locking them back to the boy crowded by dudes his type. "You know he only has four more days to ask you?"

"I'll give him the chance to build up the courage."

"You've only liked him for like ten days." a laugh left my throat as I threw my bookbag around my shoulders. "He looks like a lot of trouble too."

"Are you actually trying to make me not like him?"

"No, I'm just trying to help you not get your hopes up. He looks like a heartbreaker too." Matilda glared her way towards me. "I'm just looking out for you."

"You don't have to be my parents."

"Oh you want me to be your parents." Matilda scuffed her throat, an aggravated tone leaving her lips. "You're travelling to hell if you date a boy like him. Exactly what Aunt Tracy did. Homeschooling is next, or an all girls school. I'm done with this nonsense, Matilda Scorn. Jesus is the answer!" I croaked my voice to what her father would sound like. Matilda just let out a small laugh.

"You're such a piece of crap." she giggled some more before turning herself towards me. As I threw my book bag on my shoulders, I caught a stare from Benjamin across the hall. I motioned Matilda to turn around and as she did, she started to giggle and jump up and down. "Is he staring at me?"

"No, he's admiring the chipped locker between us." I blankly stared at her, her eyes rolling back to Ben.

"Oh my god, did you say anything to him?"

"Yeah, I told him how badly you wanted to suck his dick." Matilda slapped my arm. A laugh left my lips as her face turned priceless. Benjamin began to strut his way towards us and before he made it halfway to us, Matilda turned red.

"Hey, Madeline?" he asked, furrowing his eyebrows.

"Matilda, but you can call me whatever you want. Matty, Madeline, Marty!" I let out a snort, spinning myself around so I didn't cough up more laughter at the way she would glare at me.

"Well, Marty, I was wondering if you would like to go to the beach on Saturday."

"Spring break?" she gasped a little, covering it up with a smile.

"Yeah, it's supposed to be really nice out."

"Yeah, yeah. Sure I would love too."

"Great. Here," he grabbed her hand and slid a small piece of paper into her hand. "Just call me later." and with that he walked away with a wink. Matty watched as he walked away until she began to jump up and down, a small scream escaping her lips.

        "He likes me!"

"Marty, calm down." I snickered, receiving another smack to the arm.

"It started with an M okay!"

       "It's a man's name, Matty."

      "Shut up."

✗ ✗ ✗

"You've got to be kidding me!" I threw my hands up in the air as my keys fell to the ground. This was the fifth time they've dropped from my hands.

I bent down and picked them up, throwing them into my back pocket. I walked closer to my house when I heard a noise coming from the road. I turned my head to meet Lucas, skating with a cigarette in his mouth.

I smiled, my teeth balancing off the shine of the sun, and waved. He looked disgusted with me for some odd reason. He clicked his tongue and rolled his eyes. He took another drag before turning his back to me.

My smile died into a rainy frown. What's up with him? I watched him skate off as he got smaller and smaller away from where I stood.

I opened the front gate, climbed the drive way, and unlocked the front door. I adventured my way through the fridge, ending with me grabbing an apple, and walked my way to my room. That's where I threw my bag to the side and sat down on the bench that stared out the window. I plugged my IPod into the charger and turned on some music.

And I sat there thinking about the boy who had taken over my sleepless nights and made everything so much more complicated in life.

But with the tall, bipolar boy taking over my life, I didn't regret any decisions. I never regretted anything I did, so why would I regret this one.

Idiot me had no idea what lurked in the depths of this friendship, or whatever you would call this thing going on with Lucas and I.

           God help me.
