I knock on the door to Maven's office but there's no answer. I wait a few seconds before knocking again. The door is immediately swung open by an angry and exhausted looking Maven. He has dark circles under his eyes and he's staring daggers at me.
"You could learn to be a little more patient Mare," he snarls under his breath before sitting back down behind his desk, "I'm a busy man." I cautiously sit down in the seat across from him as if any wrong move could get me thrown out of the room. We sit there in silence as Maven writes for almost ten minutes before I decide to speak.
"What did you want to talk to me about so urgently King Maven?" He sets down his pen and looks up at me.
"Listen to me Mare and listen good. I'm trusting that you have this under control. This entire festival is on you. The fate of our relationship with Piedmont is in you, meaning the fate of our country is on you. I can't have you running off to mourn your love with my brother or cry or have whatever feelings you're having. I just can't have it. It'll mess up everything I've worked so hard for if you let your idiotic feelings ruin this festival. Do I make myself clear?" He sounds like my father. I'm not scared of him, but I'd also like to stay off his bad side for now. I nod and he dismisses me. I slip out the door and head for my bedroom. As I pass Cal's old room teas prick the back of my eyes, but I know that what Maven said is right. Feelings will only mess this up.It's been almost two weeks since I last updated I'm so so sorry. I've been sick and school just started so I got really busy. I'll try to update more regularly now. Thanks for reading! - Just Jules
