I've always been weary of the supernatural, anxious to find a reason behind the phenomenon, if only to keep myself from getting too scared. I have no logical explanation for what happens in my house. When we moved in, my oldest was 2. His bedroom closet was a small door in the back, leading to the attic. My husband and I called it a "Malkovitch door." put a lock on it, and didn't think about it anymore. Until my son started crying in the night. He cried because of the mean man in his closet. Every night. Same spot. I stayed calm. I told him to yell at the man to o away, and burned a smudge stick just to be safe. Eventually my son started to sleep again without talking of the mean man.
Five years later, my youngest, 3, started having nightmares about "a spooky man in my closet!"
"Yeah," said my oldest, "He's always been there. I've just stopped talking about him."
