Chapter 20: Back to then

"Mommy, mommy! Look at this!" I run into the living room to show my mommy my drawing.

"It's wonderful sweetie." She smiles at me.

"Natsuki? Could you help me with something?" I hear daddy from him work space.

"Yes," I walk in and see him at his desk writing stuff down.

"Could you show me your Koukaku and Ukaku?" I look at him confused and he sighs.

"Pointy and Wing thing," he explains.

I clap and bring them out as he studies me. Daddy works for some other ghouls who want to study the unique ghouls, and I just happened to be one. I don't remember the word, it's something like...kam....camera...chimera..?

Mommy and daddy say I'm very special. I love them so much. They don't let me go outside a lot but I don't really want to anyway. Mommy and daddy always bring back food and I have my toys to play with.

When daddy lets me go play after he finishes studying my pointy and wing thing I sneak into the cupboard and take a coffee bean. They don't let me drink coffee yet but I still take some of the coffee beans.

We don't eat a lot but mom and dad say that is normal for other families too. I crunch on the coffee bean and play with a little stuffed bear. I named him Sammy and he is my best friend.

I suddenly hear a shout from the living room and peek from behind my bedroom door.

"Are you crazy? We can't send her away! Just because she is a Chimera doesn't mean we can just give our daughter to some random people to be tested on!" Mommy yells.

"But think about it! They are saying they will provide food for months AND give us cash!" Daddy lowers his voice so I can barely hear him, "Plus it's a load off our hands."

"UGH, I can't believe you would even think that! Sell our daughter?! She is our child and it's our job to take care of her and love her!" Mommy yells back at him.

I close my door so I didn't have to listen to it anymore. Did daddy love me anymore? I don't really know what they are talking about but it sounds bad.

I can no longer hear yelling so I guess they solved the problem like they do in the books.

I decide to take a nap for a while because I was feeling kinda sleepy. I take Sammy and climb into my bed. As I lay in bed I hear my door open and mommy walks in. She lays on my bed next to me and faces me.

I play with her light brown hair, just like mine. I got mommys hair and daddy's eyes, even though I wish I had blue hair since it's my favorite color.

"What were you and daddy fighting about?" I ask mommy.

"It's nothing honey, just try to take a nap ok?" I nod and close my eyes going to sleep.

When I wake up mommy isn't in bed with me anymore. I get up and leave my room.

Daddy is in the kitchen getting our food ready and mommy is sitting at the table reading a book. I sit down next to her.

"Hi Natsuki, how was your nap?" Mommy asks.

"Good," I reply, "Is it almost dinner time?"

"Yes, your dad is preparing it right now," She goes back to her book.

Daddy comes at sits down at the table. I play with my hair when he says something but I don't quite hear it. Something like "sorry".

He brings out our food, it's the same red thing that mommy and daddy never really tell me the name of, but it tastes good so I don't care.

It's awkward between mommy and daddy and I want it to go away. I love them so much and it makes me sad to see them sad.

I eat all my food before mom and dad but I wait for them to finish.

"Thank you mommy and daddy," I say and smile at them which seems to brighten their moods.

I love my mommy and daddy.
