Hey! I know that this chapter is not the greatest, so you can skip it. It's not really important, it only explains why she's now living with her grandma. I will probably edit it in the future, but you don't have to read it.

I stared down that deep dark abyss.
The hole was small, but that didn't matter. It was taking away my world. So in my eyes, it was the largest black hole that had ever existed.
I watched as the grave swallowed up Lucie. My fucking world.
All of her co-workers were there, sniffling and blowing their noses into their pretentious handkerchiefs.
None of them really cared, most of them only saw another job that needed to be filled. They mourned her work, not her.
Bastards.
But they came at least.
Her friends, I saw how few showed up. They were the ones who actually cared, they made short speeches, they cried for her.
But they all kept saying sorry.
"I'm sorry for your loss." "I'm sorry you had to go through this." "I'm sorry that this happened to you." "I'm sorry." "I'm sorry." "I'm sorry."
They weren't sorry. They couldn't be sorry because they didn't do shit.
She did everything.
And they could shove their sorry's up their ass.
She did this to herself. She should be sorry. She left me.
I was so angry at her. And I was angry at myself.
She was my Aunt. My carer. My family.
And she didn't seem depressed. She was light. And airy. And bubbly.
I remember when I was six and I got really sad. My friend, Lacey had moved, and she took me in her arms and sang an old lullaby's until I fell asleep.
There were no lullaby's now. Just silence.
I felt my fingers tighten on my seat, everyone was starting to leave, driving away to their family. I was forgotten and alone.
"Come little one, come on." An ancient, sad voice murmured behind me. I knew who it was even before I turned around.
"Grandma."
I realised now that I hadn't used my voice for so long that it cracked and croaked with that one word.
She reached out and squeezed my shoulder affectionately.
She was always like this whenever I saw her. But I hadn't seen her in years. It was my eleventh birthday party when she last saw me. She seemed disappointed in me for something that day. Lucie saw that and yelled at her when she sent me to bed.
Their relationship was a rocky one, as such, I knew very little about her. But I knew enough.
I could tell by her slumped shoulders, her tired, puffy eyes and defeated expression, how she felt about her daughter. Even though Lucie didn't like her, Grandma obviously loves her.
Loved. I chided myself. Past tense.
What a terrible thing it is to bury one of your children. I couldn't imagine what it was like for her, having to attend both of their funerals.
Her blue eyes, a mirror of mine, held my gaze.
"I don't want to go." My voice cracked again, this time not from disuse.
She sighed and sat down next to me. "I don't want to go either, little one. But we must. We must go home."
"I don't have a home." I spat.
"I hope it becomes your home."
Tears were falling down my cheeks now, I would of liked to pretend it was rain, but the skies were sickeningly bright. Like someone had taken the bluest blue ever to blue and shoved up the ass of a unicorn.
"Look, I know it hurts, but sitting here isn't going to make it stop hurting." I was so tired. I hadn't slept for days and I just couldn't bear sleeping somewhere other than a car.
"Where are we going?" "Invernesse." "Where the hell is that?" "Up in North Dakota." "That's a long way from California." "Yeah, So we'd better get a move on girly."
I looked at that damned hole one more time. It would be the last time I saw her.
Then I got up to my feet, shakily. "Okay, lets go."

Alright guys, this is my first work that I have published on Wattpad, so don't judge me too harshly. However, I would appreciate some constructive criticism and feedback. If any of you saw this chapter before I deleted it and re submitted it and are confused, I'm sorry, I stuffed up and ended up submitting the first chapter before the prologue. I will publish regularly, I will aim to submit a new chapter every other day, and the chapters will become longer than this one I promise. Thank you for reading. Enjoy
