Next day

Elijah laid on his bed, one hand behind his head while the other held his phone against his ear, semi-engaged in the prolonged conversation he was having with his mother.

"Mama, I think I have a daughter." Elijah spoke into the phone.

"What, boy!?" The woman exclaimed.

"Apparently, I have a 'daughter' named Amiyah. He said she's mine but I don't believe him. I mean, men aren't even able to have babies so there's no way in hell that baby can be mine." Elijah ranted.

"Who the hell is 'he', Elijah?" The confused mother asked.

"It's Micheal." Elijah sighed.

"I always thought you liked that boy. It ain't natural for y'all to be that close all the damn time." The mother commented.

"Mama!" Elijah shouted in embarrassment.

"Don't shout at me, boy. You may be grown and out my house but that don't mean I won't come down there and whoop yo ass." The mother said sternly.

"Sorry, mama." Elijah muttered.

"It's alright, baby. Just don't go doing that every time I talk to ya. Anyway, tell me about my grand baby." The mother said.

"Her name's Amiyah. She's one years old and looks exactly like me, apparently." Elijah scoffed.

"She sounds so precious. When you gon bring her over here?" The mother cooed.

"Mama, I can't. I'm not even sure she's mine. The DNA results haven't came in." Elijah stated.

"Son, I don't know that little boyfriend of yours, but I do know y'all too close for him to lie to you about something like this." The mother assured.

"Mama, I don't want to be in any part of that child's life until I get the test results, until then she's not mine." Elijah admitted.

"I always wonder why you so damn stubborn. I guess you get it from ya daddy. Lord knows y'all act like a herd of angry bulls sometimes." The older woman ranted to herself.

"Thanks, mama." Elijah said sarcastically, rolling his eyes.

"You betta watch yo tone, Rhea. I'll hop on a plane and come down there real quick. You betta watch how you talk to me and that's my last time saying it." The mother warned.

A knock echoed softly throughout the room before Micheal appeared in the doorway.

"Okay, mama. Look, Micheal just walked in so I'll talk to you later." Elijah said.

"Alright, I won't hold ya any longer. Tell that little boyfriend of yours I said hi." The mother smiled.

"Alright, mama. Bye, love you." Elijah rushed out before he hung up the phone.

Elijah sat up in his bed to glare at an equally annoyed Micheal, who stood in the doorway.

"What do you want?" Elijah growled.

"Is that any way to talk to your baby mother?" Micheal remarked, folding his arms across his chest.

"Fuck up, Micheal. What do you want?" Elijah snarled.

"I was finna go over my sister's house 'cause they having a barbeque and I wanted you to come with me. It'll give you a chance to meet some of my family members and spend time with your daughter." Micheal rambled.

"We haven't got the results back, so, until then, she's not my daughter." Elijah stated.

"Even though you may think she's not yours that doesn't mean you can't come out, eat some food, and spend time with my family." Micheal said as he rolled his eyes.
