I smelt smoke and something burning. I knew what it was before I even opened my eyes. Alex was burning the shelter. I quickly got up and looked around forcefully. but nothing was burning. the shelter was perfect fine.

I looked to my left and saw nothing but a unmade bed without Alex in it.

I got my bag in my hand and

slowly and cautiously opened the door to the shelter ready to kick, punch or spam.

but I just saw Alex's back. I think he was grilling something. whatever it was he was burning it.

"finally your up. I made pancakes." he said without turning around to look at me. I shook off my tense body and looked over Alex's shoulder.

"these pancakes are almost black. why are you still cooking them?"

"I make things differently." he said looking at me. our faces were close. almost too close. I didn't back up. I don't know why. but he finally stared back at the burnt pancakes.

"well, umm, I'm going to get changed... so, ahh, dont come in."

"okay." he said quietly.

I put on shorts and and shirt the said, "a books my life." my favorite. my most expensive one I had.

"pancakes are ready!" he shouted.

"okay." I said as I came out.

"here you go." Alex handed me a white paper plate with a black circle with syrup put on top.

"you can't even call that a pancake any more."

"fine, I'm not the best a cooking."

I laughed and threw them away.

"what are we going to do today?" I said curiously.

"I'm going to show you something today."

"okay," I said even more curious,"show me."
