I plugged my earphones in my ears as I walked through the streets of the city.
It was a chilly Christmas Winter, so it was already dark when I set out of my hotel room.
I drowned myself in the music as I actually thought about my life as a whole. Thinking about it, escaping Central didn't necessarily have to be a bad thing. It forced me to become independent at a young age, ignoring the fact that I kinda already was after the death of my parents then sister. It also made me find my place in the world with no one and nothing but my past and visions to help me.
As all these thoughts raced through my head, I didn't notice a person coming out the door of a shop in front of me until the last minute. I abruptly stopped in my tracks but we still managed to collide into each other.
Fortunately for me, that person happened to have a coffee in their hand.
"Ohmygod! I'm so sorry! Are you ok?!?!" As they spoke I managed to get a good look at my collider. Of course. I knew that face anywhere. It's as if that decade away never happened. Long, silky dark brown hair, chocolate brown eyes, and chocolate brown skin. It had to be non other than Iris West.
I didn't even feel the searing heat of the coffee burning my skin as I thought about everything that happened between myself and Iris.
"I'm so sorry about this! I'll repay you some-" she stopped herself as she suddenly realised who she was talking to,
"Avery Davis?!?!" Her face was full of shock and confusion. It had been 10 years after all.
"Iris West." I managed to say as calm as I could.
"Where have you been for the past 10 years?" She asked, her voice full of surprise and confusion.
The past still haunted me. Nothing could make me forget. Seeing her face just refreshed the memory. Great. Absolutely fantastic. Maybe I shouldn't have come back to Central after all."Away." I replied in a monotone voice, keeping my emotions at a minimum.
She glanced at my new jacket. It was as if she just realised what she did.Felicity had brought me it for Hanukkah earlier this year but it was always to hot for me to wear it.
She also did it to spite me. Long story."Oh, I'm so sorry! Let me get you some napkins!" She hurried back inside the shop before I could open my mouth and protest. She came back out, holding 10 napkins at the least.
I took a single napkin and dabbed it on my jacket, now noticing how much damage she had done. The jacket now had a huge stain on the front and I could feel the liquid seeping through into my sweater underneath and the crop top under that. What would a napkin seriously do to get rid of that?
I thanked her in a monotone again and was about to be on my way, when she stopped me, again,
"Hey, Avery? Do you wanna pop by ours by any chance? I know it'll make dad's day." I thought about it. I wanted to see Joe too. But then I remembered David and Avril,
"Will David and Avril be there?" I asked, the venom in my voice enough to kill.
"Oh, didn't you hear? Wait of course you didn't. Uncle David and Aunt Avril adopted twins 8 years ago and moved to Metropolis for a fresh start." I raised a brow. Well, people change I guess.
"Oh, that's such a shame," The sarcasm was evident in my tone. Iris detected it,
"You really hated living with them, didn't you?" Her tone was sympathetic. Sad, almost. I looked down; I hated talking about my past.
I looked at the time: 5:35pm.
"Listen, Avery. About last time, I'm so-" I cut her off,
"Sorry? Yeah, I know. I'm sorry too." She opened her mouth to speak, confused, but I carried on talking,
"We used to be best friends, Iris. We used to play together, go to the movies together, even cry together! What happened?" I paused as I let her swallow the information. I didn't Ant to waste anymore time talking to her. Only God knew what Ollie would have done if I didn't contact him on time.
"I'm gonna have to go now. I'll see you around sometime." I walked past her, stopped, then turned back around to face her,
" And Iris?" She turned to face me,
"Yeah?"
"I'll think about it." I thought about what I just said, "Coming to the West house, I mean." An amused look spread across her features. I sighed internally; Way to ruin the dramatic exit, Avery.
