It was a normal day for Soul and Maka so far. They had gotten up for the day, eaten their breakfast and went to school as per usual. Soul was in a good mood but he wasn't even sure why. He wasn't a morning person and he usually wasn't in a good mood having to get up early and yet he was in a good mood. Soul decided to just shrug it off and not look a gift horse in the mouth. He hasn't felt like this for awhile ever since he got attacked by Crona. Of course, he doesn't blame him, because in the end it was all Medusa's fault. "Good morning, Maka, Soul!" Tsubaki greeted them as they reached the top of the stairs.

"Good morning." Maka and Soul greeted back.

"Hm, you seem to be in a good mood this morning, Soul." Kid said as he joined the group. Soul just shrugged.

"I don't know why."

"I wonder what it could be." Maka said thoughtfully. Soul just shrugged again and the group made their way to class. He couldn't think of anything. Nothing out of the ordinary happened before he went to bed last night. Could it be because Blair didn't try to molest him this morning? Who knew? Soul just gave up on thinking about it because it was making him feel sleepy. He was definitely going to fall asleep in class again today. He let out a yawn as they entered the classroom. Maka stared at her partner wondering what had put him in a good mood. How could he not know why he was in a good mood? Sometimes she felt like Soul was just one big mystery. He never talked about his family but never asked her questions about her family unless she brought it up. Surely he was curious but he was never one to pry unless it was really important to the situation they were in; like when she got that postcard from her mom. He didn't read it before giving it to her. He didn't ask anything but if it was from her mother.

"Good morning everyone." Dr. Stein greeted as he walked into the classroom.

"Good morning, Dr. Stein." Nearly the whole class greeted back. Soul just yawned. He never felt so tired. He didn't get much sleep last night. He had a funny feeling in his stomach that just wouldn't go away no matter what he did and now he's in a good mood. He just couldn't understand why.

"Oh, Soul, Lord Death would like to see you in the Death room." Soul sighed and got up, really confused. "He also told me to tell you that there's a visitor in there waiting for you and the visitor told me to give this to you and that you'd understand when you got it."

"What?" Soul was really confused and it was not cool! Dr. Stein gave him a black ring. It wasn't just any black ring though. It was his father's. Soul glared at the ring. "That bastard didn't even have the guts to tell me to my face!? I am so going to kill him!" Soul shouted suddenly causing everyone to jump before he stomped out of the room, muttering insults the whole time.

"What's Soul's problem?" Maka asked wide-eyed.

"I believe it may have something to do with his family." Dr. Stein said thoughtfully. Maka was curious now.

"What do you know about Soul's family other than them being famous musicians?" Dr. Stein chuckled.

"I'm a bit surprised Soul hasn't told you much but then again, he's a private person, so I'm not that surprised." Dr. Stein sighed. "I see it won't do any good to change the subject. From what Lord Death has put down in Soul's file, I've learned that he's not talking to his family at all and that he ran away to Death City to get away from them. Now obviously there is more to it but Lord Death didn't put that in there and I only assume that Soul asked him not to. That or Lord Death sympathized with him." Maka wondered why he wasn't talking to his family anymore. "Now that that's out of the way, I'm going to begin taking role. Oh and I don't expect Soul to be coming back, so I'll put him down as Exempt for today." Maka was shocked. Why wouldn't he be coming back? Maka wasn't the only one who was curious about Soul's family, Kid was curious too. Surely Soul's childhood wasn't too bad right? Growing up in a family of musicians... Then again, they may not have been happy when he came to Shibusen to become a death scythe.

Soul's P.O.V

I knocked on the door to the Death room. I wanted nothing more than to just walk right in there and punch Wes in the face! "Come in~!" Lord Death's voice rang out. I sighed and opened the door. Maka's dad, Wes, and Sid were all standing around the mirror Lord Death was in. Why did Maka's dad and Sid have to be here? Oh well... "Soul, I'm so sorry for your loss."

"Wasn't much of one to begin with," I grumbled. My old man hated me and I hated him.

"Oh come now, I'm sure your father wasn't that bad of a man."

"Maybe not to the public eye..." Wes sighed.

"It's no use, Lord Death. Anyways, I came by to tell you that the funeral is in two days and Mother insisted on having a party the night after."

"What for?" Soul asked frowning.

"To celebrate life of course." I didn't think that was a good reason to have a party. It was probably so she could put some normalcy back into her life. "Anyways, here's some invitations for your friends and you are to be expected to play; a solo and a duet with me." I snorted.

"Alright, fine. Is that all?"

"Yes."

"Oh, you can have this back." I said chucking the ring at him. Wes caught effortlessly, looking sad. I wanted to punch his face so bad, but I held it back until I got outside of the Death room and the door was closed to punch the wall. I guess we'll be leaving today. I went back to the classroom. Dr. Stein and the rest of the students seemed to be shocked. I just sighed and went back to my seat.

"Here," I said giving the invitations to Maka, Kid, Black Star, Tsubaki, Liz, and Patty. "It's in three days, you better dress in formal clothing. Well," I said thoughtfully, getting an evil idea that had something to do with Black Star.

"Soul what's with that look?" Maka asked wide-eyed.

"Don't worry about it, it starts at 7 I think. We can discuss it after class." I added as Maka was about to say something. Dr. Stein cleared his throat.

"Soul, you don't have to sit through class if you don't feel like it." Soul sighed.

"It's fine, please continue." Dr. Stein smiled and did so. And I did fall asleep!
