The Dark Days

Ian's POV

Two hours felt like 2 days, sitting, staring at Lauren laying on that bed. A doctor or a nurse would occasionally come in to check on her, but it's always the same news.

"All her vitals look the same as before, but we can't say when or if she will wake up" they would say.

I'm about to drift off asleep again when I hear a familiar voice in the door.

"Ian?"

"Sarah!" I jump off of the uncomfortable hospital chair and pull her in for a hug.

"This... this is just so horrible. I just lost Meghan and I can't loose her too..." her voice cracks at the end and she hugs me tighter.

"What kind of psycho would do this?" I say angrily. She doesn't answer.

"Hey... can I come in?" Another voice says from the doorway. It's Aaron.

"Yeah bud come on in." I say. Honestly, I don't like Aaron. I could say it's because I feel like he's a bad guy or something, but I just don't like how Lauren is with him and not with... me?

No. I can't think like that now. She's my friend and she's with someone else. And Lauren is in a coma and I need to stay strong for her. that means not thinking about things like that in a time like this.

Aaron walks over to Lauren and strokes her hair. I tense up but then realize, she's with him. Not me. Let them be. She needs him. I think. Then he leans in and whispers something long in her ear. He must be encouraging her to wake up.

Then Sarah walks over and starts to cry, and also whispers something in her ear. I hope whatever they're saying will help to wake her up.

Sarah leaves because she has to be at school the next day and it's already late, and Aaron's mom comes to pick him up later. I sent Lauren's mom to get some coffee for the both of us. We need to stay away in case Lauren wakes up. She will wake up.

Once again, it's just Lauren and I in the room together.

I stare at her for a long time before getting up and walking over to where she lays, in a coma. I trace the features of her face with my finger and gently brush the hair out of her eyes.

"Please Laur. Please wake up. Please I need you. I'm sorry I left. I will never leave again, ok?" I whisper, barely audible. A tear streams down my cheek, off my chin and lands on her arm. I kiss her cheek as more tears fall. I hold her hand and look down at her small, fragile body. "Please." I whisper again, closing my eyes.

Movement.

I swear I felt her hand move in mine. My eyes flick open. Maybe I'm just going crazy. Maybe I want her to wake up so badly I imagined it.

Her eyelids flicker.

I'm not crazy. I'm not imagining it.

"Nurse! Doctor!" I call out. Within seconds, I'm swarmed by medical equipment and doctors.

"...change in heart rate.... activity in the brain... waking up..."

A nurse grabs my hand and starts to lead me towards the door. Before she can say anything or take me any farther away, I speak.

"No. I'm staying here. I'm not leaving her." I state, standing my ground.

"Relax" she says in a soft voice. "I'm just taking you out of the room so the doctors can make sure she's actually waking up. You can see her immediately after the doctors are finished."

I decide not to argue and follow her out of the room. I then call Lauren's mom to tell her.

"It might be a false alarm though..." I finish saying into the phone.

"I'm on my way." Ms.McBonny says before she hangs up the phone. She's here in less than 5 minutes.

1 and a half hours later, a doctor finally comes out and says we can see her.

I can barely contain myself as I make my way back down to her room. As I enter I see Lauren sitting up in the bed, nodding her head at a nurse in the room with her. I practically run up to her.

"Laur! You're awake!" I cry taking her hand in mine. I don't want to hug her in case I hurt her. She smiles at me.

I would remember that smile forever.

Sorry this update is late I've been soooooooooi busy! I hope you guys like this story because we're nearing the end...😥 but I'm thinking of making a sequel... what do you guys think?
