~Judy's POV~

It was a bright, sunny day in Zootopia once again. Busy animals rushed their way around me as I positively walked to the ZPD, in my usual bouncy mood. Speaking of which, work seems to make me feel that little bit extra special nowadays. That reason being that Nick is my new partner, of course. Oh Nick...I shake my head fondly when I remember that sarcastic, laid-back personality and charismatic charm he always tends to pull off.

I learned to love it.

A few weeks have passed since he had officially joined the force and I feel like our friendship is growing stronger each day! He's also developed this sort of...grip on me I guess.

His striking smirks and that way of carrying himself has gotten me more intrigued than before. I've picked up on his subtle characteristics, and they're starting to grow on me... But, I mean, it's not like I have feelings for the guy, right? I shouldn't really jump into conclusions like this; I'm a bunny, he's a fox-we're opposites! Besides, inter-species relationships are illegal. The chances for love to blossom between us would never work out... Although, why is it that when I tell myself this, I end up feeling sad and disappointed?

I cut off my thoughts of Nick and enter the ZPD, getting distracted by a usual warm greeting from Benjamin Clawhauser.

He puts down his bowl of cereal and smiles when noticing my arrival. "Good morning, Judy!"

I give a wave along with a wide grin as I walk over to his desk... Wow, is it hot in here, or is it just me?

He gives me one long look. "I couldn't help but notice..." he says discretely as he leaned more forward, "you look to be in a different mood today. Anyone on your mind or something?"

Confused by his suggestively raised brow, I shift my eyes around and blink at his words. "Uh, not really...why do you ask?"

He returns to his position and looks to be hiding a growing smile, "Oh nothing, it's just that your cheeks seem redder than usual..." My eyes widen. "But no need to worry. Your secret's safe with me." He winked.

"WHAT?"

Alarmed, I felt my cheeks to find that they were burning. Looks like it was just me! Could it be from all those thoughts of Nick all the way to work? I gasped; shocked that I never realised, and ran towards the room for roll call. In case Benjamin questioned me further...

By the time I get there, my cheeks start to calm down. Thankfully. Why am I acting so strange today? Hopefully this is just a one off for me. Maybe it's because I've missed my coffee routine this morning... I pull myself together, and open the door to reveal a couple of animals scattered around the room; I guess I'm early. I looked over to my spot and saw...Nick? Wow I'm impressed, considering he's never this early. I knew something motivated him to act like the 'early bird' today. But God knows what that was.

With my hands behind my back, I walked slowly down the aisle, not leaving my focus on him. He sat there at our desk with a cup of coffee in his hands. It looked like he was deep in thought, staring intently at the wall opposite him. He was mindlessly tapping the cup, eyebrows slightly narrowed. Mixed emotions overcame me as I saw his familiar face and my heart does that pathetic fluttering again. But I decide to ignore them and casually walked over to our shared seat, examining my cheek with a thorough rub along the way. Just in case.

I interrupt him from his focus. "Oh, morning, Carrots." He gives me his full attention and relaxed smile, turning his body around to face me.

I instantly smile back as I hop onto our seat. "Hey, partner," I say.

He scoots to the right a bit to make more room for me, sliding a snarl bucks cup towards my side of the desk. "I bought you that 'extra strong' coffee you like to start the day off with," said Nick. "I would've given you a carrot-cake to add, but..."

I take it gladly. Even though he can sometimes be annoying to work with, he can still act like a gentleman and get something extra for me.

I take one sip and roll my eyes, "Har, har! And, thanks...you know, you didn't have to-"

"Don't mention it. Anything for a friend, right?"

He cleared his throat as I felt a questionably painful stab of disappointment. His smile dropped to a frown as he tried to hide it, looking away. He shifted in our seat to return to his original position. We both began sipping our coffees in silence. Of course, if you blocked out the noisy animals behind us.

I wonder what he was thinking about? I was going to question him about it, but left it alone. This situation had already turned awkward enough.

I whisper quietly, "yeah, friends."

See Judy, we are only friends. He just proved it. Nothing more, nothing less.

Just friends.

~This is my first story so it may not be brilliant. I really ship them, (as they are literally made for each other), so I thought, why not write fan fiction on them? I'm aware that this chapter is short, but it is a story opening after all. I assure you my future chapters will be much longer :) I'll update soon! Thanks for reading xxx~
