Previously...

A distracting thud from behind of something that had dropped on the floor startles us. "Damn it, my blueberries..."

My ears stand erect. Something about that voice sounded alarmingly familiar. Me and Nadine turned our heads round to look behind us. I swear my heart skipped a beat when I saw who it was. All I could do was blink at them with wide eyes, wanting the ground to swallow me up then and there.

It was Nick.

~Nick's POV~

I puffed in annoyance and bent over to pick the packet back up. Why am I always such a klutz? Aren't foxes meant to be stealthy? Ha. If I tried to catch any prey, I'd trip over my own two paws and let them get away free. Good thing I'm evolved. I straightened back up and dusted the packet off from the dirty floor, smiling to myself with satisfaction. My trip to the zoopermarket seemed to be going smoothly so far.

Well, that is until I look back up.

I gasp almost instantly and stood still in my tracks, staring wide-eyed at my new situation. There was my sister, her eyes lit up with a usual smile; happy to see me. Then...there was Judy. The main reason to why I froze like a deer in headlights. She...didn't look as happy to see me.

Oh Judy... My heart seemed to somehow ache and flutter at the same time when I rested my gaze on her, sending flutters in and out of me. I saw those big, bright eyes again... And to top it all off, she just had to be wearing a cute outfit today; emphasising her curves. I stared at her. She stared at me. My blueberries didn't seem to matter anymore.

"Oh, Nick! What a coincidence, we were just talking about you!" Nadine breaks the silence, blissfully oblivious.

I had no choice. I could just ignore them, run away and escape with my blueberries. But, I couldn't do that, I had to talk back. Wait...they were talking about me?

"Oh hey there, Nads...and Judy." I reply. "Wow! What a small world, huh?"

"And...getting smaller." Judy adds, her voice strained.

At this point, Nadine looked like she was trying to put 'two and two' together. She had finally picked up something from our unsubtle behaviour. "Um, guys? Did something happen...that I don't know about?"

Me and Judy instantly look at each other, both desperate. I let out a small, agonising whimper as I started to panic. She gave a look that wanted me to think of an excuse. My brain couldn't think of any at all. So, all I could do was hope for some sort of zombie apocalypse to appear out of nowhere, while Judy stared at the floor, probably praying for a miracle to save us from this social disaster.

*phone rings*

Well, hallelujah.

"Uh, excuse me for a sec, guys. I just need to take this real quick..." Nadine hurriedly reaches into her dress pocket and answers her phone. I let out a sigh of relief with a paw to my chest. Judy shakes her head at me, giving a knowing smile. I never really knew how much I've missed seeing that.

"I'm so sorry about this, but I think I have to go. Let's just say it's an emergency. Oh this is so embarrassing..." She strains after facing us again and ends the call. I blink at her words as I watch her turn to Judy, giving her a hug. I sigh, realising that maybe escaping when I had the chance wasn't a bad idea anymore.
