~ Judy's POV~
I wobble, struggling to balance on my self-made 'step stool' in order to see myself in Nick's bathroom mirror. A couple of, clearly unused, cooking books stacked on top of a box was the best I could do. I'm almost done getting ready and now finishing off my makeup, lathering my lashes with as much product as I could.
It's Tuesday, the next day. From yesterday's events, Nick has definitely been feeling the weight of this heavy situation that had fallen on us. However today is going to be different. Instead of letting Delgato stir up more anger within me to try and stop him, I have decided to draw my attention towards Nick instead. He's my boyfriend! And I am determined to use our day off for something good; to cheer him up. I smile at my reflection. I'm really excited to spend this quality time with him this evening.
"Where are you going?" Nick asks, staring at my blouse and jeans as I emerge into our bedroom.
"I'm taking you out."
He blinks at me in confusion, but his ears start to elevate. "Where?"
"Um... I don't know yet. But why not be spontaneous?!" With a wide smile I walk towards him sulking on the edge of our bed and pull his arm in encouragement.
"I dunno...I'm not really in the mood-"
"Come on!" I persist. "You need a distraction. Let's do something together! You're not gonna let some low life co worker ruin your day off, are you?!"
This gets him up. Progress! I then proceed to open his cupboard and scan his row of hung up clothing items. I grimace; I've never seen this much tropical print in my life.
"Is this all you've got to wear...?" I ask.
"Hey, they were my business uniform."
I eye him, now standing next to me and raise an eyebrow. "Your business, for selling popsicles?"
"Well I figured that if I was conning animals, I better do it while looking smart...but let's also ignore the fact that I had no other clothing options at the time."
"You call Hawaiian shirts smart?"
"Whatever, Carrots. my scamming lifestyle is behind me now. I've turned over a new leaf, remember?"
"Yes, I remember. Which is why me and you, we're going clothes shopping.
"Clothes shopping?" He wines.
"You heard me. You say you've turned over a new leaf. So maybe it's time you found a new...attire."
The bed sank as I plopped myself down to watch Nick get dressed. His unbothered attitude towards indiscreetness in front of me acted as a benefit for some eye candy.
"Maybe my standards are too high, but this doesn't exactly sound like being 'taken out' to me." He said.
"Maybe not...but we can always go out for a romantic dinner afterwards! Would you like that?"
He put on his shirt and started buttoning it up.
"Well?"
"With a pair of species such as ourselves, it's more about thinking if other animals would like that." He said.
I fidget around on the bed. Nick is speaking more cynically than usual. His head is bent and the dim lighting in the room hid his face even more, as if he's in his own dark aroma. "...Are you going to tell me what's bothering you?" I ask.
