Ruby woke up.

She looked around.

Where was she?

Oh, right. She was home.

She was wrapped in a blanket, with a book wrapped between her arms– her head leaning on her mother's shoulder and her eyes closed under the light from the TV screen.

Her dad was right next to her– legs crossed, newspaper open, and feet resting on the coffee table.

How nice was it to be with her family again.

How nice was it that all her "Gone Missing" posters had gone in the trash.

How nice was it to feel safe, and protected, warm, and happy–

How nice was it to be home.

But the past could not be ignored. Ruby went through some hard stuff.

And she could still remember how everything went down...

Ruby moved her head around and slowly opened her eyes. She was in the same place as before. Why wasn't she dead?

Under her head she felt a furry pillow, and soon realised that she was covered in a blanket too.

Ruby sat up. She was dizzy. But it was normal. After training so much with Ber, Ruby was familiar with the feeling of fatigue after transforming during daytime.

"You woke up."

Ruby heard a soft voice, childish-like, but definitely coming from a grown woman.

Ruby turned around and admired the lady in front of her. She was so beautiful.
The woman had shiny hazel eyes, and deep, rich gold hair braided down her back with golden thread tangled between it. She wore a long, purple, flowing dress that shared the same golden thread embroidered on the fabric. Tiny little black crystals surround her eyes, and her feet were bare and smudged with dirt.

"You needn't worry. Your friend is alright." The woman said, flashing a tiny smile, and sat down next to Ruby. Her dress flowed with the tiny breeze dancing around the forest.

Friend? Why wouldn't they be alright?

And then it hit her. Ruby's last few events exploded right in front of her like a bomb. How everything had gone so well and suddenly so wrong in those few minutes...
"The knife." Ruby managed to say. Her voice was hoarse and tired and hurtful, but she talked anyways. Her eyes moved desperately around the clearing to find Carson–

"The knife was removed and his wounds are closing. He is not awake yet, but not completely unconscious. Do you want to see him?" The witch said calmly. Why was she so nice? Were witches always this peaceful?

Ruby looked at the lady's hands and noticed they were occupied by a small token– a stone with purple gems stuck to it.

"Yes. Take me to him." Ruby said. She let the witch take her hand and guide her through the clearing, walking into a big tree with the skin of an animal covering the entrance like two big curtains.
