"Ruby. Ruby wake up."
Ruby opened her eyes to see Val right next to her.
"What is it?" She groaned.
"I have to show you around the village."
"Why?" She turned around and plopped her head down on the pillow.
"'Cause I have to. C'mon. Get up."
"I don't want to."
"Get up."
"No."
Val kneeled down and pushed Ruby out of her blanket.
"Will you get up now?" He said, losing his patience.
"...No."
"Fine then. But you will have to stay alone here all day." Val said, turning around and beginning to walk away.
"No! Wait." Said Ruby, jumping up from the floor and putting on her shoes, meanwhile Val smiled triumphantly.

...

"Alright." He said, rubbing his hands together. Ruby and Val were outside the house, and Val was deciding what to show her first. "Fine." He said after a mental debate with himself. "I'll show you from here and we'll go deep into the village."
"Ok." Said Ruby, shrugging her shoulders.

Val told her that the place they were in at the moment was the house valley. This was a stone path that lead all the way to the end of their territory, in which houses were standing at the sides of the path until a certain point. Just at the end of the houses the fountain of wishes could be found, where reunions happened.

Then he led Ruby through the stone path. They went house for house, Val explaining to Ruby the names of each person that lived there. Satterlee, Grover, Berlin ('good folks,' according to Val) and Everette. Soon they reached the end of the path and found themselves facing a great forest. Val said it marked the end of the village's territory.  To their left great fields filled with crops could be seen. Golden pieces of wheat, the little green spurts of carrot, and streams of water keeping the crops fresh. Two tanned children, one light teenager and a black woman were recollecting berries. And finally, to their right Ruby saw a really different house. It was not a mansion, and certainly not fancy, but it was obviously more important than the others.
"The the chief's house." Said Val. "Carson's dad. I come here very often. Pretty neat."
The house was, in its core, just like the others. A simple hay roof supported by wooden walls. But there was a stone path leading to it, surrounded by greener grass. The sun's light seemed to prefer that one house, shining over it so ever brightly. The door, instead of being simple brown, was decorated with gold designs that looked Celtic-made. Every window had shiny borders and every corner of the house had vines crawling up the walls like the flames of a fire. And just beside the entrance, right where the path ended, Ruby saw Carson and his dad, talking. They were not arguing, talking. And just before her eyes, she saw Carson hug his dad. What did just happen? Val's jaw had dropped at the sight of this.
"Did you know abou-"
But before he could finish Carson had already ran towards them, with his dad right behind him.
"Val! Ruby!" He cried, running towards them. "A-huh- I didn't mean for you to see- I mean-"
"You fixed things." Said Ruby, still in shock.
"Yeah." He smiled, looking up to his dad.
"Val. Hello." He said. "And you must be Ruby."
Ruby nodded.
"I owe you a lot for helping me and Carson."
Ruby felt her cheeks turn pink.
"Thanks. But – how?" She asked.
"Last night." Said Carson. "I thought about what you had said and– it made me think. I could lose my dad any moment and I really wouldn't like to end things like that. So... apart. So, this morning I woke up early and talked to him. We were really honest and sort of... worked things out."
Ruby couldn't believe what she was hearing.
"That is great!" She cried.
"Well, my dad asked about you. I told him about your family and stuff... He says he will help you get trained."
"Really?" Ruby's eyes widened. It was like Christmas to her right now.
"Yes." Said The Chief. "I will have you trained just like Carson when he was little. It is the best training any werewolf could ask for. You will be reunited with your family sooner than you think."
"Wow... I can't believe it. Thank you! So much." Said Ruby, receiving a welcoming nod from The Chief.
