We Weren't Friends Then

There was a knock on the door and Haley answered feeling a mix of anger and happiness when she saw her good friend, Brooke Davis, at the door.

"Where is my adorable god-son?" Brooke asked entering the house.

"With Nathan for now. They'll be home later. I have to talk to you in private though." Haley said walking into the kitchen. Brooke followed close behind in concern.

"Why? What's wrong? Did you do something bad? Did you cheat on Nathan again? Are you pregnant again?"

Haley stopped at the counter and huffed. "No. I have never cheated on him. And this is about your pregnancy, not mine!" Haley snapped getting frustrated.

Brooke was taken aback. "Wh-What are you talking about? I'm not-"

Haley spun to face her. "I know, Brooke." Haley sighed. "My lawyer found out about your quote unquote scandal that your mother could use against you and told me about it. H-How could you not tell me?" Haley asked feeling hurt.

Brooke looked guilty, but she also hurt. "Well, we weren't friends then... I mean I didn't even tell you about Nathan and I."

Haley scoffed. "I know and that upset me so why keep this a secret. Does Lucas even know?"

Brooke sighed in defeat. "It's complicated."

"He deserves to know-"

"He did, then he didn't." She sighed again. "I lied."

Haley blew out a breath. "Brooke, how could you lie about this. So you told him you weren't-"

"No." Brooke took a deep breath and blew it out. "I told him I thought I was and took the test and it was positive, then he said he would be there for me, but I was still mad at him about Peyton." Brooke sat down and Haley sat down across from her. "He told me not to shut him out and I told him that I would handle it alone. Then I went to the doctor and he was there and we got into a fight. He called me a slut and said he wasn't sure if it was even his..." Haley furrowed her eyebrows, a look of disappointment on her face. "So I told him the truth. That I was pregnant and it was his." Brooke gulped and hung her head in shame unable to look Haley in the eyes. "Then when he came over and said that we would figure it out together I- I knew that it wasn't what he really wanted, to be stuck with me. He wanted Peyton and I knew that." She choked back tears. "So I told him that I lied and I wasn't really pregnant, that I said I was to get back at him for cheating on me with my best friend, but that was the lie. I let him walk away. I did it for him, Hales. I let him be free from being a dad with me. Then my plan was to leave for Californa, have the baby, and give it up, but we became friends again and then I was staying with him because he didn't want me to leave yet and I started falling for him again." She licked her lips. "So I hid it as best I could and waited to leave, but when I was about to leave Lucas kissed me and said he wanted to be with me. I couldn't handle it. It was too much and with our baby inside me I just- I couldn't think and I left." She started crying so Haley got up to get her some tissues. She handed them to Brooke and sat down beside her to offer her some comfort even though she was still mad.

"You had a son?" Haley questioned knowing the answer. Brooke looked up with tears in her eyes.

"He told you it was a boy?" She asked referring to the Scott's lawyer.

Haley sighed and rubbed Brooke's arm. "He told me that a sixteen year old boy's grandfather found out who his birth mother is and that young boy is coming here to meet her... to meet you."

Brooke looked scared and shocked. "H-He wants to meet me? Wh-What if he h-hates me? Wh-What if he wants to yell at me for giving him up?" She started sobbing more and Haley pulled her into her arms, holding her close.

"Listen to me, Tigger, no one can meet you and hate you. He is going to love you and since he is half you and half Lucas I can believe we will love him just as much."

Brooke sniffed and pulled back to look at Haley. "More than half."

Haley looked confused. "What do you mean?"

She sniffed again. "I gave him Lucas' name and my last name." Haley blinked and Brooke sighed. "His name is Lucas Davis Scott on his birth certificate, but now his name is Lucas Davis Friar because the Friars adopted him. Either way he is Lucas junior."

Haley gave a small smile. "I know Lucas, both of them, won't hate you. No one could for very long."

Brooke smiled, then she frowned. "Maybe not for long, but for awhile."
