subin was reading a book when a knock sounded on her dorm door. she called out that it was open, and the door opened.
bambam stuck his head in the doorway, "you're specialist wants to see you. he said it's important or something."
subin's eyebrows scrunched up, "i already had my check up today, though."
"i don't know why," bambam shrugged. "he just said that he needed to speak to you as soon as possible."
bambam left as subin got up and headed to her specialist's room. she had a good session today, so she didn't think that anything bad would of this meeting. still, her mind was buzzing in every direction as she continued on her journey.
as she opened the door, she didn't meet face-to-face with her familiar specialist. instead, sitting on the examination table, was jaebum. something stirred in subin's stomach, and she didn't think it was uneasiness about the whole situation. she was afraid it was because of jaebum.
"why are you here?" subin asked.
"i was told to be here."
"so was i."
"i guess this is fate then."
subin rolled her eyes at him, but she hated that she wanted to smile.
"what do you think this is?" jaebum asked. that little shit knew, but he was pretending to play dumb. subin could sense it.
"well, i thought it was another check up for me, but seeing as you're here, i don't think that's the case anymore," subin said, leaning against a wall with her arms crossed. "why do you think we're here?"
"some sort of surprise, i guess," jaebum said.
subin narrowed her eyes. "you know."
in contrast, jaebum's eyes went wide. "what?"
"you're a little shit, you know that?" she asked as a smirk formed on her lips. "you totally know why we're here, but you just won't tell me."
subin walked to stand in front of jaebum and she leaned in close to his face. he leaned away, but she kept coming closer. subin's body acted on it's own as jaebum was laying on his back and she placed her knees on either side of his his hips. she placed her hands on his chest. jaebum hoped she couldn't feel his heart beating through his ribcage.
"what do you know jaebum?" subin asked, a teasing look on her face.
honestly, even if jaebum wanted to ruin the surprise, he wouldn't be able to. the view of subin with the light hitting her just right that made it look like she had a halo on was too overwhelming. not to mention her position. what he knew was that she was making it very hard to breath, concentrate, think, and function. he knew that he was slowly falling into a pit that had a perfect three-sixty image of this view of subin. he knew he was fucked.
"i know nothing," he squeaked.
just then, the door opened and both subin and jaebum whipped their heads around to look at who it was.
"oh," the specialist said, looking at the two of them. "you're both here i see. not the position i was expecting to see you two in, but okay."
subin bashfully climbed off of jaebum, embarrassed that she was just caught in that position.
"well i have good news for you two," he smiled. "you both have been chosen to do a trial run out in the city."
subin heart skipped a beat. "what's that?"
"you both get to spend three hours out in the city and we'll monitor your brainwaves and heart rate from here. we'll keep in contact with you so that you won't be alone if you start panicking or something. we'll also check in periodically, tell you certain areas to go, ask you to try certain restaurants, etcetera."
outside. public. other people.
after ten years, subin was about to step foot into a world that was too dangerous for her. a world that she was told she'd destroy herself if she entered it. she was about to step outside of the rehab center for the first time with jaebum by her side. for some reason, she found a sense of comfort knowing that he'd be with her.
jaebum had experience in the public, so she felt comfortable going into a strange environment, since he would know what he was doing. she also felt extremely nervous being with jaebum alone for such a long period of time.
as the specialist kept talking as subin looked at jaebum. her heart just about leapt out of her throat when she saw the expression on jaebum's face. he looked so... soft. and content. and he was just looking at her. his eyes were soft, and she saw something in them that she'd never seen. she'd never, ever seen someone look at her like that before. her stomach flip flopped, knowing what that look meant and how jaebum felt about her
she was scared that she felt the same way.
