Max' s POV
I wondered around for a while, trying to leave as much distance from me and Jeb. If I had it my way this whole place would be up in flames, but I couldn't do that while they still had Fang.
After a few minutes, I found the room Nudge was in. She sat behind the computer desk, typing quickly. I quietly, I walking behind her, looking over her shoulder.
"Yes, I did it!" She cheered, "Max look at the screen!" She squealed.
"You did what?" I said puzzled. Then Dylan popped up on the screen. He looked worse than he did earlier. His face looked bruised and his skin looked pale. Whatever he did, he probably deserved it. He's the last person I'd want to see right now.
"Why did you do this? Can he here us?" I asked staring at the screen. I forgot how good of a hacker Nudge was. I imagine it would be difficult to do something like this.
"Max? Is that you?" Dylan said before Nudge could answer either of my questions.
"Why did you do all of this! I hate you! You're a traitor!" I screamed at the screen.
"Well, I didn't kiss you and pretend to love you. Then when your precious Fang came back, you just completely forgot about me! I was always there for you, even when he wasn't." He said. I would assume he would be more angry, but he just looked hurt. I still couldn't forgive him for being a traitor. We did go through a lot, but it was my choice in the end, not his.
"I never want to see you again." I said. I considered smashing the screen with my fist.
"You probably won't get the chance to see either of us, but I'm air you'll find another guy. It's how you'll lose both of us, right under your nose. The one place where a girl with wings wouldn't think to look.
"It would be a privilege to lose you." I said angerly Then loud gun shots went off with yelling, but the screen went completely black.
"You know what this means right?" Nudge said excitedly.
"It means that Dylan is a backstabbing traitor." I said frustrated. I could tell that Nudge knows something that I don't. I try to wait as patiently as possible, tapping my fingers on the desk.
"Max, it means they're here! Dylan was giving us clues. They must be underground! They have to be! She said quickly. I jumped up and starting to run down the hall. Nudge followed close behind.
I stopped suddenly when I found the staircase that led to the basement. What if this was a trap? Why would Dylan try to help us? Nudge could be working with Jeb, too. If her memories were replaced, how would I know what they were replaced with.
"Are you coming Max?" Nudge shouted from the bottom of the staircase. I followed after her, I'm probably just being paranoid. It's not like I could be in a worse situation than I'm in now.
I kicked the door door down and walked in. Dylan lay on the floor in a pool of blood.
"Is he dead?" Nudge asked frightened. I kneeled down next to him, I could see his chest gently moving.
"No, he's still alive. Put pressure on his wound. I have to look for Fang, but I promise I'll come back for both of you." I tore off a piece of my dress and handed it to her. She looked at me scared, but did what I said without saying a word. It looked like the bullet hit him in the leg, not a fatal hit. He is losing blood fast, though.
Dylan might not be a traitor, after all. That made me feel better, except for the fact that he is dying and I don't know if I can save him in time. I started to run down the hallway, I needed to find Fang fast, before it's too late.
