Whooo-hoo! I'm extremely pumped because I am officially PUBLISHED! Even though the newspaper didn't pay me, I still got to give my mother a GREAT present - I opened up the newspaper and showed her my short story! I first wrote it as a card-type short story, but hey! Being published is SO much better! So she opened up the newspaper and gasped... Hehe.
But yes, this is my first special short story. There are more to come, rest assured. This short story will be up until Father's day, at which it will be archived on my new website in the external link! I'm really excited. So, check it out!
---/---
The young boy watches, with a smile on his face, as the final meal of the day is placed on the table by his tired mother, who would like nothing more than to sit down for a little bit. Today, the rest of their small family is out, so his mother decided to serve the young boy's favourite meal- spaghetti and meatballs.
“Thanks, Mom.” He whispers the thank-you to his mother as he pulls a load of the food into his mouth using his fork.
“You are very welcome,” she replies. “I decided to do something special for you, today.” She doesn't mention that she's slightly sick as they eat calmly.
“Mm.” Within minutes, the boy jumps up and hugs his mother, the final piece of spaghetti stuffed into his mouth.
“Yes, yes.” She has a slightly sarcastic tint to her lovingly kind voice, and she gestures for him to sit back down.
In a few moments, the boy gulps down the remaining food in his mouth. Spraying a little bit of spittle, he says, “Mom, can you wait for a minute?”
She coughs into her sleeve, about to answer, but the boy is already gone, disappearing down the hallway.
She sighs and shakes her head, sitting patiently in her seat. It isn't long before the small feet thunder back down the hallway, and the boy reappears in the dining room, grinning.
“Mom, I've got something for you.” He has a slightly suspicious look on his face, and his right arm is held behind his back. “Close your eyes!”
She smiles lightly, and while unsure of what would happen, she decides to trust her son and closes her painfully red eyes, reopening them when she feels something drop into her lap. A card, with little red crayon roses and daisies drawn on it, sits peacefully there, while the young boy smiles. “Read it, mom! Read it!”
She looks closer and slowly picks it up with her hands, looking at each and every drawing slowly as her son's smile widens.
“I made it for you!” The boy proclaims this loudly, then proceeds to joyfully jump forward and hug his mother, as she reads the inside slowly.
To the best mother ever, happy Mother's Day!!!!
I love you!
She chuckles at the multiple exclamation marks, each one different from all the others in size and colour. Feeling better than before, she hugs her son back.
“I love it.”
“I love you, Mom.”
~Happy Mother's Day to my amazing, wonderful, loving, caring, and kind mother who seems to never take sick days. I love you.
