She smiled and I felt my heart go crazy.
"Don't we know each other?" She asked, clutching her books to her chest.
"I'm Thomas' best mate. Nice to meet you," I joked, reaching my hand out.
She laughed, the sound sweet and fragile.
"Very funny Percy," she said, swatting my hand away,"But that's not what I mean."
My skin tingles from her touch and I smirked, trying to cover up my blush.
"Then whadda mean Princess?" I asked, loving the way the the light bounced off her hair.
"Well I remember from when I was a child...there was a boy who used to call me Ambrosie. He could never get my name right, so he just started calling me Amb. And I guess...well I guess you look a lot like him. You even have the same eyes," she replied.
My eyes widened at the forgotten nickname and my forgotten inability to say her name.
I smirked and chuckled. "Whys it so important to you?"
She smiled again, a slight blush creeping into her cheeks.
"It's silly, but he promised to marry me if he became taller than me." She laughed once, a small giggle escaping her lips. "He was always shorter than me. He could never get over that fact and swore that he'd grow taller. Kinda silly don't you think? Yet I could never forget him," she looked at the ground, obviously embarrassed.
"Sorry Princess. But I'm pretty sure I've never met you before Thomas introduced us," I lied, shrugging.
"Oh haha. It's fine," she smiled.
I bit my lip, loving the way her eyes sparkled as she looked at me.
"Hey Amb," Thomas said, walking past me.
I realized her eyes weren't sparkling for me, but for Thomas as he snaked his arm around her waist.
"Hey," she said, leaning up as he kissed her.
"Hey Percy," Thomas said, fist bumping me.
I watched Ambrosias eyes light up as she laughed at something he said and felt my heart fall as I realized her smile wasn't for me anymore.
And that the sweet little girl I had promised to marry was in love with someone else.
I stared at the black tv screen, remembering the way she had smiled at the jock.
"You shouldn't be here Percy."
Anger flooded through my veins as I picked up a vase off the coffee table, throwing it.
It smashed against the wall, right next to a picture.
The frame turned skew as the vase shattered.
I walked up to the picture, staring at it. It was of Ambrosia smiling at the camera, caught mid laugh as she tried to turn it zaway.
I yelled in frustration and pulled the frame down, the glass smashing in the floor.
"Dammit," I whispered, sliding to the floor, my hands on either side of my head, "I'm so weak."
