"This is Ambrosia. I'm not available at the moment but be sure to leave a message," her sweet voice said, prerecorded.

"Or even better, don't! She's with her favorite badass and doesn't have time for you!"

Her sweet laugh came through the speaker as my muffled, recorded voice came from another room.

"Amb..." I muttered, switching my phone off and slipping it into my jean pocket.

I looked up, my eyes frantically scanning the school yard.

Soft hands suddenly covered my eyes, blotting out the sunlight.

"Guess who," a sweet voice sung.

"I don't know," I joked, playing along.

"What if I told you it was your math teacher?"

"Then I'd be worried because my maths teachers is a 57 year old man," I laughed.

"Doesn't that make it even better that it's me instead?" Ambrosia laughed, removing her hands.

I spun round and smirked at her, my heart clenching as her soft curls fell around her perfectly oval shaped face and her beautiful eyes shone with joy.

Her pale skin was flawless, all except for an ugly purple and yellow bruise laying directly under her left eye.

"Miss me?" She asked, smiling widely.

But I ignored her question and my fingers grazed over the bruise.

She flinched as my fingers skimmed it and her eyes shone with something I didn't recognize.

"What happened?" I asked, my voice steeling over.

Her eyes darted away but only for a second and she smiled, a smile that almost looked real. But her lower lip trembled slightly and I knew it was fake.

"I ran into a cupboard door. Thomas opened it and I was looking down at my phone. It was an honest mistake and he apologized afterwards, even though he didn't have to," she smiled.

To anyone her story would have been reasonable. But I knew Thomas was a maniac when it came to closing doors.

He never left one open, not even a cupboard door at 4 in the morning.

He never left the cupboard door open.

"What really happened?" I asked, cradling her cheek.

"What? I just told you-"

"I know you're lying Amb. I can see it in your eyes."

Her eyes tinged with pain and I felt anger swell through my veins.

"I told you it was an accident. Why don't you believe me?" She huffed.

But her eyes flickered again and I realized it was relief.

"I'm sorry Amb...it's just I worry. You know I do," I murmured pushing a stand of hair behind her ear.

She closed her eyes as my hand brushed against her cheek and when she opened her eyes they shone with joy.

"I know Percy. I know,"  she said, tilting her head upwards.

Her lips met mine and I closed my eyes, leaning down into the kiss.

"What the hell are you doing?" An angry voice asked.

Ambrosia jolted away and I stared speechless at the boy who had caught us.
