It's been 20 years when my mother died, it was also they same day I was born. When my father and mother received the news of pregnancy, they claimed it was the happiest day of their lives, at least that was what my Father told me. All the information I have of her came from him.
Whenever she was around, the mood seemed brighten, even the sky looked like it cleared. But, October 6th was not a sunny day.
She had been complaining of pain since the previous night and no sleep had tucked her into bed. The cramps continued until later, 12:36 pm, she went into labor. My father said it was a long process, longer then usual patients. At first everything seemed fine, I went through the normal procedures and she was still happily waiting with my father.
Eventually, her breathing became slow and light. I was brought back into the room and she held me calmly, not wanting to tell him or ruin the happy moment. After a few minutes in the calm atmosphere, she told him as her grip weakened. She said her good bye to him and I. Sometimes, I feel as if I heard it and it still rings in my ears. Dad gave me necklace she always seemed to wear. It had been passed down from generation to generation. I never wore it because it was a sacred treasure to me. It held all the memories of her and her family. . .
But, that's in the past and we shouldn't dwell on it. No, I'm not crying, there's just something in my eye. My friend, Elise, waved a hand in front of my face, bringing me out of my thoughts."Are you alright? You seem a little... out of it."
I rubbed the tears out of my eyes and nodded. "Never better," I grinned softly.
After a few moments in the Awkward Silence, I continued to put my stuff into my back pack. Now starting my almost 3rd year of collage. Everything seemed like a routine. No problems occurred in the hallways, well, besides the usual. Two students have bullied me since elementary and, lucky for me, we are in the same college. Unlike a lot of students, I don't have a fancy laptop to carry around and take notes on. I have the old fashioned, Handy-dandy notebook. When I had gotten a very cheap, old model, it was instantly trashed by the two. Besides, I can doodle on the side of the page with them.
Back to the bullies(Man, I get side tracked), Mark and Kansas. It was always after my first class when I had to walk past their room to get to the next. And every day, they were there waiting. Most of the time it was just a simple tripping trick, but when they had their bad day, I walked out with black eyes and bruises. I've lost notes a couple times as well.
"Hey, Nerd~." Speak of the devils.
"When will you get the memo, we don't want you here, monster. You belong with the rest of them," Mark sneered.Did I forget to mention Monsters have been on the surface for a while now? Personally, I support them, but my over protective Dad keeps me from going to any human and monster schools. Never met one once. My friends have brought me a Nice cream once, honestly it was pretty good.
Mark dragged me into the messy room and began the torture while Kansas kept Elise from entering the room. They never seemed to target anyone else, everyone else thought they wouldn't hurt a fly.~timeskip~
They threw me back at into the hallway and ran towards their next class. Elise ran over from a bench in the hall and helped me to my feet. Quickly I wiped away the blood on my face and sobbed into her shoulder. Another one of my breakdowns.
Most of the time I broke on my bed, crying uncontrollably, my hand covering my mouth to not make any sound. Only Elise knew about these attacks and the bullies, she helped me keep them secret by my request. I heard foot steps approaching and tried to calm myself before who ever they were saw.It turned out to be my other friends, Zoe, Abby, Skylar, Landon, and Ashley. Zoe and Abby were around the same height, which was kind of short compared to average, but then again, I was too. They all had blue eyes and brown hair, except for Abby, she was blonde.
Ashley was she first to speak up, "They they got you pretty hard this time, didn't they?" I nodded slowly.
They glanced at each other then at Zoe. She looked as if she was trying extremely hard to keep something in.
"I know something that would cheer you up," she smirked."Ya got chocolate on you?" I ask hopefully.
She frowned, "No, of course not, but I bet there's some at the restaurant I found this morning. Pretty fancy pancakes they got there, not to mention the bartender is hot."
Ashley let out an exasperated sigh, "If that's a pun, I swear you will die later."
"Why would it be a pun? She uses that word for almost anyone she meets," I ask confused."Let's just go already," Zoe pushed everyone back down the hall they came from. "Landon's turn to drive."
He frowned but pulled out his keys and led everyone over to his car. Zoe slid into the passenger seat and left five people to squish in the back. Nope, no vans for us. She directed Landon to the restaurant while the rest of us sang some tunes from Hamilton. When we arrived, I leaned on the tall Ashley for support. She didn't seem to mind and stood there as my crutch while we walked over to the building. As we neared closer, I noticed this was a monster bar. Crap.
"Zoe, you know I can't go to these," I whined.
She smirked once more, "What your father doesn't know you can't get in trouble for."
I smiled at the thought. Sure, I get to make my own decision, but it kind of made me nervous. I didn't do this often. We went in to the bar and Ashley stiffened as she glared at a fire elemental behind the counter. Ohhh, hot. Zoe is going to get it later.
I watch as he walks over to a skeleton? Monster, right, need to get used to that. He wore a blue hoodie and black gym shorts. A light blue dusted his cheek bones as he grinned drunkly.Zoe whispered, "He was here this morning too, I wonder why he hasn't gone home." She drifted off as we went over to a corner booth and the fire elemental came over to get our orders.
He told us his name was Grillby and I see Zoe blush slightly. She was really serious about him being hot. He wrote the orders down and went to the kitchen. I sat, thumbing my fingers against the table.
My attention drifted back to the short Skeleton and I saw him take a drink of ketchup? I don't think that's normal, not even for monster's. When he finished, the blue only darkened. This worried me further, he's been here since probably 10:00 getting drunk, this is severely unhealthy. Wait. It just occurred to me that he got drunk on ketchup? I, uh, don't know what to say about that or think.
Grillby walked back out of the kitchen doors and cast a worrisome glance at the skeleton. When he got to the table and began to hand everybody their orders, I asked him a few questions. He said his name was Sans and came here almost everyday. Normally his brother came around 5:00pm to pick him up, but it was 7:00. Grillby left again to continue serving his customers when I noticed Sans missing from the bar stool he was sitting on.
I looked around quickly to see if he has slipped out the doors and stood to peer out the windows, but when I did I was met face to face with the Drunken Skeleton.
