Chapter eight.

I don’t know how long we stayed in that hot spring, but by the time I got out my dress was dried. I pulled it on. Twisting my hair and trying to remove as much water as I could before we had to return.

The dawn was on the horizon by the time we returned to the palace. I pushed the silver cloak off my hair, smiling up at the king. “Thanks.” I said, he chuckled. “Of course.” I went to the bedroom to brush out my hair. I sat on one of the plush oak chairs and ran the brush though my chestnut hair, that woman had said the story’s about me had claimed I had beautiful brown hair, the fairest woman around. My hair fell in sleek brown waves as I brushed it out.  I blinked, I should wear my hair like this more often. I listened to the patter of feet on the hallway, and a loud laughing with a ‘whoosh’ sound past my open door. “Catch me if you can!” Came a young woman’s voice. Another flash and another sound. “Your slow!” The voice came again.

I listened for a moment longer, Feanero had taken a liking to that young maid. I listened to them running about like young children for a while, a smile on my red lips. I stood and went to the window and looked into the horizon, the mountain glittered and the lake shimmered in the distance. I listened to the gentle whisper of the wind through the trees.

It was calling me again.

I wrenched myself away from the window, turning back towards the oak room. I sighed, sitting down on the bed, closing my eyes and drifting off.

_Dream_

I was running though the forest, laughing and dancing like a child. I realized, I was a child. I was myself, a young girl in the forest a deer approached me. This was no dream, I gasped realizing what was going on. I turned and the village was burning, people screaming and a shadow was running at me. Its menacing laugh pulsated though my ears. I screamed.

My eyes opened and I was staring at the ceiling. Thranduil was sitting up beside me, a surprised and scared look on his face.

“Are you all right?” He asked, I nodded slowly. I was shaking slightly, beads of sweat rolled off my arms. He moved over to me, and ran his hand along my hair while I continued to shiver and shake. He sighed. “We really need to find a way to stop those Night terrors.” He laid back down next to me, wrapping his arms around my shivering body. Curling around me protectively, He always managed to calm me down.

I slipped back off into sleep again

I awoke some time later, the soft snoring in my ears told me he was still sleeping. I had come across an idea, I wanted to go into the forest again, but that was only part of the plan. I would go to the un dying lands and find my father, he would cure this night terrors so I could live in peace and not fear the thought of sleep.

I rolled over slowly, slipping off the bed as quietly as I could without shifting the mattress. I went to the closet, finding my red cloak and armor. I pulled it on, it had been so long since I had worn armor or used a sword, hopefully I wouldn't have to use one, I found my old sword buried under a collection of dresses. I slipped it into the sheath on my side, tying the cloak under my chin. I wrote a little note and placed it on the dresser, placing a kiss on his forehead before I slipped off. I snuck a peak at both of my sons, they slumbered peacefully. I turned and snuck down the path, avoiding any possible confrontation by taking the servants path I snuck out the back door and stole a waiting guardsmen horse, a brown steed. I turned to look at the castle a final time before riding into the forest, heading west towards the coastline.

Traveling though the forest was tricky work on horseback, vines and tree roots awaited your ever turn and twist. Thankfully I reached the edge of the forest quickly enough, trotting the horse out into the field up the hill. Returning the horse back to a gallop. It would be a good four days to reach the shore at this pace.

-Thranduil POV-

My eyes opened slowly, expecting to see Scarlet before me, but she wasn't there. The bed before me was cold, I blinked she must have gotten up earlier. I rolled upward and pulled on my red tunic, throwing a red cloak over it. I went down stairs, the boys where already up and play battling away, there clink of swords echoing though the palace. “Have you seen your mother?” I asked, they both shook there heads. I frowned slightly, turning and returning to the room. Perhaps she was in the bathroom, Nope.

I looked to the desk on the side of the bed, I walked to It slowly a paper was resting on the oak surface. I slowly reached down to pick it up, flipping the paper over to read it.

“My love

I am going to the un dying lands, to find my father. Don’t worry for me, I can handle myself. I will be back in three or four weeks.

-Love Scarlet”

I stared at the paper for a moment before I crushed it in my hands, I spun quickly leaving the room storming down the steps and to the platform the boys where practicing on. “We have to find your mother, shes run off the un dying lands.” I hissed, rage hissing though my voice like the bubbling lavas of mount Mordor.

Feanero gasped in surprise, “What. Why?” I scowled “Shes a foolish woman.” I felt the hate growling in my mind. “Come, we must go. Feanero, you must watch over the kingdom.” I removed my crown and handed it to the boy, he took it in surprise. My older son followed me out of the palace and to the waiting horses. The guards raced up in surprise “My lords, where are you going?” they asked. “To fetch the queen.” I hissed, he had disobeyed me and lied to me. She left me. And I would get her back.
