Chapter 9: You're no Angel Either 😇

Arias POV

Aria pulls up in front of The Brew, surprisingly right on time for her breakfast with Ezra.

Aria - Hey, I'm sorry I'm late.

Ezra - You're actually right on time.
Rough morning?

Aria - Very. Please say you ordered me something with caffeine it already.

Ezra - Yup. Dry cappuccino, with cinnamon sugar right?

Aria - I actually think I'm gonna need about 2 more espresso shots than that.

Ezra - Is everything okay with you Aria?
Are you worried about something...about us?

Aria - No! No.. we're fine. Ali was just in one of her moods this morning, and Spencer looks like she's going through another insomnia episode again...

When Aria mentions Spencer, Mr.Fitz has a flashback and remembers witnessing some strange behavior from Spencer a week ago in his classroom..

Spencer had fallen asleep in Mr.Fitz classroom and it looked like she'd been there since the night before.

Ezra: Spencer? Spencer?

Are you alright? How long have you been here?

Spencer: I don't know.

Ezra: Did you sleep here?

Spencer: I don't know... I... I came in here.

Ezra: Hey, take it easy. Let's talk for a second...

Spencer: I'm fine. I'm just really tired, that's all.

Ezra: Spencer? We both know what's going on here. I think it's time we address the issue... don't you?

Aria notices Ezra has completely checked out of the conversation, and she starts to wonder where his mind has gone.

Aria - Hey? What's wrong?

Ezra - Have you talked to Spencer recently?

Aria - Yeah... I just told you I was with her lastni--

Ezra - No. I mean, really sat down and talked to her.

Aria - No not really... why? Did something happen?

Ezra - I feel a little strange coming to you with this..but certain things have started to pile up..

Aria - Things like what?

Ezra - The homework Spencer's turning in is sloppy and rambling, she walks in every morning with circles under her eyes, I mean, when she's in class, she's either hyper alert or she's a total zombie.

Aria - Yeah, I mean, I've noticed that she's been little out of it lately...
But she's had a lot to juggle...with college stuff, and her parents splitting up..
And you know Spencer, she's a total stress-case. A garbanzo bean in the wrong salad bin is enough to make her her wig out.

Ezra - Right..but I think it's more than that.
She has a problem with amphetamines. And I'm worried it's become a crutch.

Aria - What? Ezra, That's crazy.

Ezra - Well, people think it'll improve their academic performance, but when it's overused...
