Chapter 26: Just a Dusty Old Rock🗿

A/N: I'm sorry I'm just now updating after a few days! It was my birthday weekend and I was also in a bit of a funk that I'm still trying to pull myself out of.

That night, Emily could barely get any sleep. She kept tossing and turning thinking about Alison.
She thought about how she was attacked, she thought about Ali admitting she loved her, she even thought about Paige and Alison having a conversation without ripping each other's heads off.
Was the universe finally working in Emily's favor? Or was it just a beautiful nightmare?
The next morning, Spencer texts Emily to meet her before school starts and that she wants to talk to her asap.

Emily: Hey Spence, I got your S.O.S...
Are you okay? You're not still taking those pills...Are yo--

Spencer: No! No..it's not that but, look we don't have much time to talk before school starts...but first I wanted to ask you...is everything okay with...you and Ali?

Emily: Yeah, were doing,
well..better than usual.

Spencer: I just want you to be careful, Em. I know you care about Ali, but she's hiding something from you..I'm not sure what it is yet though.

Emily: What? Spencer don't start this again..

Spencer: Something weird is going on..
Are you sure she hasn't been acting strange, like at all?

Emily: Well....

Emily thinks about whether she really wants to tell Spencer or not and she decides she will because maybe it'll be better for Alison's safety.

"Yeah..something weird did happen..
Alison was attacked last night by a group of people, she says she has no idea who they were or why they did it..I just took her word for it." Emily Mentions hesitantly.

Spencer: Yesterday, when I was leaving school I heard her on the phone talking to som----

*RIIIIING* The first bell rings and the hallways begin to flood with students.

Emily: I've gotta get to class Spence, can we please finish this conversation later?

Emily scurries off in a hurry and Spencer goes to use the bathroom before class starts. While she's in the stall she sees Alison come in and start to apply her makeup in the mirror. Spencer contemplates confronting Alison then and there about what she's been hiding. But as she's walking out the stall Mona walks in the bathroom.

"Hi-i Alison, Hi Spencer..." Mona stutters.

Alison then turns to Spencer and says harshly..

"If you ignore "it", it'll go away.."

Mona quickly grabs a few tissues and exits the bathroom.

Spencer rolls her eyes at Alison and says in a snarky tone..
"Don't you ever get tired of shooting at the low-hanging fruit?"

Alison: Don't ruin a perfect day Spencer.

Spencer: Perfect? What's so great about it?

Alison: I don't know. Nothing. Everything.

Alison smirks as an image of Emily appears in her memory, but it is short lived because when she looks down at her phone her cheeks turn pale and her shoulders tense, and she begins to look sick.

Alison: Have you seen Emily yet!?
Alison shouts and her voice cracking as if she were about to cry.

Spencer: Y-yeah I just talked to her..what's wrong?

Alison: I've gotta go..tell Emily to meet me at our spot during lunch.
But please keep an eye on her...please.

Spencer: What? you're leaving school?

Alison: Yeah...I've gotta go handle something.

Alison left without saying another word and ran out of the bathroom.
The rest of the day the fear on Alison's face was plastered on Spencers brain. Alison was truly battling with something or someone and Spencer was starting to feel a little uneasy and worried about what was happening.
Spencer tells Emily that Alison wanted them to meet at their spot, but keeps what she heard Alison saying on the phone to the mystery person to herself.
Emily tries to text Alison throughout the day but no reply.
But at lunch she still goes to their spot since Alison wanted to meet her there.

Emily goes to sit on the rock and she waits. And waits. She leans over to see where her and Alison had wrote their initials on the rock last year and as she's waiting she begins to have a flashback..

Alison: There go Noel and Prudence to the kissing rock. People have been sneaking off to the kissing rock for hundreds of years.

Emily: You're making that up.

Alison: Just because I make it up doesn't mean it's not true.
You go there with somebody, and you can feel the ghosts of the other lovers spying on you, pushing you to do it.
You know, you should never disappoint a ghost.

Emily: It's just a dusty old rock...

Alison: Who do you wanna take there?

Emily snaps back into relality when she checks her watch and sees that it's already been about an hour and lunch was over, but still no sign of Alison.
Emily takes off her friendship bracelet that Alison gave her a few years back and leaves it on the rock.
As Emily turns to leave she just mumbles under her breath.

"I can't believe she stood me up..
Maybe it is just a dusty old rock."
