By the time September rolled around, Ashton had finally finished the song he was writing for Harley. He read it over once more, just to ensure that it was perfect. He folded up the paper and walked across the hall to Harley's room. He knocked gently on the door and waited for a response. When he didn't get one, he slowly opened the door, thinking she was just still asleep. He walked in and dropped the paper to the floor. Harley was in bed, as Ashton thought she would be, but she wasn't sleeping. She was naked and had a naked Chase Stevens continuing to thrust into her. "I-i.." Ashton shook his head. "I.. Sorry." He walked out quickly and closed the door behind him.

"Who the hell was that?" Chase asked, looking down at Harley.

"Ashton. He lives here." Harley kissed his neck, trying to bring him back to what was important.

"Are you fucking him, too?" He pulled out of her and sat on the bed.

"What?" Harley scoffed and looked at him. "Does it matter if I'm fucking him?"

"Yes, it matters." Chase rolled his eyes and stood up, pulling his boxers on.

"It doesn't matter." Harley shook her head and sat up. "We aren't dating, I'm allowed to fuck other people."

"It's not that, Harley." Chase chuckled darkly. "I don't fuck whores." He pulled his clothes on and left the room, leaving Harley stunned and angry. She scoffed and got dressed.

"I'm not a whore." She mumbled to herself. She glanced at the floor where Ashton had dropped his paper, and picked it up. She unfolded the paper and read the words etched on the surface in messy handwriting. She furrowed her eyebrows and chewed on her lip, glancing toward the door.

Ashton quickly drove to the bar, hoping for a chance to talk to Calum. He walked in and sat at the bar, resting his hand in his palm. "What's got you all upset?" Calum asked, setting a beer in front of him.

"Remember a couple weeks ago when I went on a date with Harley?"

"Your spider picnic? What about it?"

"Well, I guess we both thought different things about it." Ashton sighed and sipped the beer. "I found her in bed with Chase Stevens this morning."

"Oh, man, I'm sorry." Calum sighed. "I guess no one told you that Harley doesn't date."

"I had heard that, but I wanted to be different. I wanted to show her that relationships are great and that she's capable of being loved."

"Harley doesn't believe in love. I doubt she ever will." Calum explained. "She's always been a firm believer that love is a myth created by happy people to make lonely people think there's a way out."

"I can't believe I thought I could be different." He sighed and took another sip of his beer.

"You know, it's her loss." Raelynn piped up as she moved to the seat next to Ashton. Calum rolled his eyes and walked to the other side of the bar.

"Thanks." Ashton sighed, still unsure of how he should approach things with Raelynn.

"If you ever realize that she's not worth it, I'm here." She smirked, running her fingers along his arm. He fought the urge to flinch back. He chewed on his lip as an idea popped into his head.

"Do you, uh.. Do you want to come get dinner with me?" Ashton asked her. She smiled widely at him.

"I'd love to." Raelynn giggled. "We can go to Hornbach's Diner."

"Uh, sure. We can go there." Ashton nodded and stood up. Raelynn grabbed his hand and pulled him out of the bar. He followed her down the street to Hornbach's Diner. They walked inside and took a seat at a corner table.

"They have really good cinnamon rolls here. Well, that's what I've heard. I don't eat sugar or carbs."

"What do you eat?"

"Mostly just fruit." Raelynn shrugged as she looked at the menu. Ashton shook his head and looked at his own menu. He was wondering if his plan would work. He hoped it would, so he could stop being around her.
